Stick with Woodburn

I don't think we sent Kemp back (did you mean Kemp?) The 'ammers recalled him because Orient wanted him.

Still the correct decisions though.

We need better (than Kemp/Woodburn & who we currently have) in key areas of the pitch, this presents us with the perfect opportunity to bring them in. I just hope it happens a long time before 1st Feb.
Well yes he was recalled, but they’re always ‘recalled’, I imagine there was some sort of dialogue and we would have known or told West Ham he wasn’t staying after Jan so why don’t they find him a permanent transfer.

I’m not sure if I’d clamour for a load more signings this window. We need to firstly clear some of them out, Thorniley, Howe,Sarkic the prioritise, then as the seasons a bit of a free hit now ie probably won’t go up and probably won’t go down, see what Bez, Mitchell maybe even Williams have in the tank so we really know what to do with them in the summer when hopefully we are building a promotion winning squad.

Edit to add after thinking about it, might as well keep Kai Kai till the summer using the same logic as above, tell him he’s playing for his future etc and see what happens.

We're not even half way through the season, there is no way Critch is gonna treat the remaining 25 games as trials to see how capable the fringe players in the squad are, he's already said he's looking at signings; it is imperative that whoever arrives are of real quality, not another couple of squad fillers.
What Kemp & Woodburn leaving does is allow us to bring a couple of players in without the need to move anyone out first.
The three you mention have no future left at the club, I think all will leave in this window so the squad will be trimmed a little anyway.
Who would then remain should all contribute at some point to a certain degree.
It is inevitable that we will have some players in the 22 (or so) who don't feature that often, that's football.
I'm convinced players like Williams were signed to make up the numbers on prove it deals, so he was never likely to consistently play but could step in if necessary, Sarkic may have been on a similar kind of deal.

We can't keep moving players on in every window just because they're not playing, there has to be some consistency even if some players aren't contributing.

Think you missed my point really. I know Woodburn hasn’t done enough, I know he should be more than a squad player. My point is with our injuries and especially Kemp leaving, would it not be easier to keep someone who’s been training with the squad for months and give him a chance starting a few games now the space has arisen in a previously competitive area of our squad?
Can we not keep him and get some other players in, we have lost Kemp and have a few injuries, it would make sense to me.

This was my point. We’ve had such poor transfer windows in the last 18 months there needs to be some clean up.

Like we agree obviously Howe, Thorniley probably Sarkic are going, and I’m not saying don’t bring anyone in. I think we could probably use a capable CB (probably summer when Ballard goes back) a creative central mid and a striker. But we really need to balance this squad out. As next year we can have 20 first team pros. That’s finite.

I can’t see us doing much in the second half of the season and there’s also the added danger albeit it low that the season doesn’t end. It’s the perfect time to blood people like Bez, Mitchell and even give Kai Kai his last rocket. It’s about as danger or risk free as it gets.

Recruitment overall has been a shambles. Mansford, Johnson & Critchley have questions to answer.

I think one thing that we may hopefully see is the coaching pedigree of our staff reflecting in the overall improvement of players like Bez & Mitchell.
I said the other day that we now need quality over quantity, and would much prefer 2 players to arrive who can be real difference makers instead of shipping 5 out and another 5 arriving. Bringing in 5 more players who are young and quick with no real set position who will take weeks to get up to speed serves no purpose except giving Critch more substitution headaches he really doesn't need.
I'd be happy to trim the squad down a little if it meant getting rid of some deadwood and freeing up money to be used towards the wages of 2 really good players. There must be another Charlie Adam somewhere, or a DJ, real difference makers.

it has generally been poor since the ownership change, this window has started positively though. So let’s see what we can do.
There have been sprinklings of class on there, namely CJ and Marv.

Agree with all of that. 👍

A few, but the majority of signings have underwhelmed.
I agree, over 50% of the signings since the owner ship change have been complete busts.

I think it will get better though, it’s easy to forget just what a state the club was in when SS took over and the effect that then had on everything at the club.

True, let's hope we see a change to quality over quantity.

"He needs to go and play consistently game after game and it's been decided through both sides that's the best thing to happen now"

Critch on Ben's return to Liverpool.

Good luck to the lad, hopefully he makes a decent career for himself somewhere.
