So when is the good news

Actually no itā€™s not.

My point is that I donā€™t have to wait for a statement of intent from the owner, nor a raft of star signings before I commit to buying a season ticket. I will do it because I am a supporter of my club come what may

Like I say well done you I will get a badge made for you if you want

I actually find it quite disturbing that I have several people having a pop at me whilst failing to answer the above question

Tumbleweed time.........
Donā€™t find it disturbing pal. Youv put the effort in for this.

If You really find it disturbing why people are treating you like this, then you need to ask yourself a big question, not everyone else.

Why cant you leave it to the people in charge they have far more experience than you. If it is disturbing for you then tell
of your football knowledge and experience of what you know ?. You seem to think you know all the answers but you dont.
You just kick up shit all the time and want a response. Get a ** life.

He perhaps hasnt. But given how 'massive' the owls are for league one his remit would have been different? I.e. go out and get the best because we get 6 zillion through the gate every week so we have the best budget no need to worry about resale value etc.

As far as I can tell, he isnt in charge of the philosophy or identifying the playing talent, just overseeing it

So instead of having a pop at me try and discuss the points eh guys

Critchley yet again hasn't gone for any real experience as his assistants when we all know he performed best when he had some experience in CC or SMc

So what's the plan or the project with the new Sporting director and what has he done at Wednesday that he can bring to us?
Critchley got us promoted and SW got promoted so Iā€™m optimistic that we may avoid relegation,Iā€™m liking the new picture, if I wanted to see a slap head scowling Iā€™d have a shave

So I will ask again for the hard of thinking

What has he done as Sheffield Wednesday?

I understand what Philā€™s saying with regards to Downes recruitment record.

But.

Worth remembering that Sheffield Wednesday operate with a different set of targets to Blackpool. Yes we both want promotion but Sheffield Wednesday can target proven players considered capable of playing at whatever level theyā€™re at or higher and can offer the financial incentives to attract them. Blackpool on the other hand donā€™t have the financial resources to outspend rivals therefore shop in different markets - players who arenā€™t necessarily proven yet and therefore command lesser fees. Itā€™s no surprise therefore that Downes didnā€™t necessarily target young players with ā€˜sell on valueā€™ at Wednesday as that simply wasnā€™t their goal. They went for proven older players in their prime instead. It doesnā€™t however mean he canā€™t do what we need him too though. He possesses the skills needed to do the role. Wednesday ultimately achieved their objectives with players Downes helped identify and recruit. Blackpool will now offer a different set of criteria and a different set of objective - itā€™s likely Downes reckons he can achieve that too. Heā€™s also likely not in the same role now either - so thereā€™s going to be a team of recruitment staff doing what Downes was doing at Wednesday doing it for him. His record really isnā€™t that important when you consider it.

Can I encourage you, as an act of mercy, to post your stand and seat number please? This way, no-one will find themselves sitting next to you for ninety minutes by accident. šŸ™

Iā€™ve heard from some that Phil moves about a bit in the ground

Nowhere is safe from Welsh (not welsh) Phil

So I will ask again for the hard of thinking

What has he done as Sheffield Wednesday?
To answer your question (sort of) Phil

Looking at the time lines, it looks like David Downes was born in Blackpool.
His Dad Bobby was playing for us around the time he was born. That surely
gives David a positive and affectionate connection to the club.

There is very little out there regarding his personal achievements, but the info
that is out there is all positive. Four years at Villa, then four years at the Massive
and not a bad word to be said about him.

At Villa his main job was scouting youngsters for their youth set up. Villa have been
successful at this for years, so the job came with a bit of pressure and expectation.
He chose to leave to re-join Steve Bruce at Sheffield Wednesday.

At SW his job altered to a more senior recruitment for the first team but he had to
operate under the restrictions of transfer embargoes and a majorly reduced budget.
He has been credited as one of the factors for Wednesday getting promoted.

Unlike Badlan who's credited for Gyƶkeres and isn't afraid to mention it. David Downes
hasn't been credited for finding any big name players, that's not to say he hasn't. He maybe
just likes to get on with the job, leaving the limelight for others.

So summing up, he has experience in youth and senior recruitment, works well under set
budgets and we are the first club that he has been given the chance to bring it all together.

Good luck to him šŸ‘

Didn't know Bobby Downes was his Dad. I had an argument with Sam Ellis about Bobby Downes being our coach. Ellis said football is all about opinions.

Thanks for trying to answer its certainly better than just sending abuse like most on this site

How come we are underwhelmed by the coaching team that most people were gutted to lose 12 months ago?

I reckon it's just negative mindsets in action. Lifetimes of looking for the downsides in everything on a daily basis.
People were down that Downes was stopping at Sheff Wed last week, with no sign of movement. He arrives and the same voices decide he's not all that, leaving there with an ageing squad that needs a massive overhaul.

Negative mindsets writ large.

I thought the project or plan at Blackpool was to sign young hungry players with a sell on value

What proven track record of that has Downs got?
He was head of Villa's youth recruitment for 4 years, a number of whom are now playing Premier football at the club.

I actually find it quite disturbing that I have several people having a pop at me whilst failing to answer the above question

Sheff Wed 96 points in L1 and got promoted to the Championship. I think we would all settle for that!

I take it you've heard, from certain informed sources, of Phil's tendency to move 'about a bit in the the ground.' Although the circumstances behind this apparent state of 'drift' appear, at best, a tad sketchy, I'm wondering, in fact, whether the words, 'moves about a bit', shouldn't be more accurately transcribed as 'frequently has to relocate...'? Not that I'm one for casting aspersions, you understand.

Surely the only time we can really assess where we're up to are:
First Day of the season and last day of the season.
It feels like we've got eggs and flour and are yet to get the other ingredients but there are those who want to know how the cake tastes!

Or shouting "we haven't got a cake!" 2 months before the birthday party.

Ive only been told he moves about a bit. I have no information further than that.
