So what happened ..

Offered far more money to go work in the big league with the likes of Coutinho, potential progression to Liverpool/England.

We'll never know, but I have the feeling he'll come out this week with a statement, but I doubt that will make much of a difference to most of us because the damage has already been done.

He dumped us without saying a word for days, anything he says now will be pretty meaningless. The way he has handled this has been classless.

That’s actually the best line I’ve seen to sum it all up.

There’s no loyalty in football, and maybe that’s correct for everyone involved in the modern game.

I see Quitch in a different light now given that he’s gone to be a no. 2, after having the future of a club gifted to him. But again if he’s been set up for life with the wage I can even see that reason even if I don’t agree with it.

Your line is spot on. It’s been classless, he’s not daft he knew what a rapport he had with us, how the vast majority of the fans felt about him and their vision for the future with him. Given that he knew all that I’d have expected him to handle his departure properly.

It wouldn’t take too long to put together a statement and find a way of releasing it.

Not speaking to the players before hand, and I image his two assistants he’s left in the lurch is awful. He’s brought many of these people to the club and whilst they’re getting remunerated for their time here a lot of them came here because of him.

Just classless. You’ve hit the nail on the head.

By the sounds of it, he's going to be doing most of the managing at Villa with Gerrard not much more than a figurehead, in which case it's a big step up and it's understandable why he's jumped at the chance.

I don’t think that will be the case. Gerrard did a brilliant job with Rangers without Neil having any input, so he has his accolades within management.

I’d imagine Critch will focus on a player development and running drills, alongside assisting with tactics. Can’t argue it’s a brilliant piece of business for Villa, perfect man for the job.

interesting point about Mike Garrity. Brought him from Liverpool, now could be out of work if the new boss wants his own team.

Quite hard to take isn’t it?
At the end of the day though he has done a great job, and is moving on to what is potentially a much bigger gig.
I hope he finds the right words, and the ways to convey them, to make us feel better about ourselves as Blackpool fans, and also the way he has left.
Most of all I hope we get a brilliant replacement, and that this is not a great leap backwards.

I’d do a brilliant job at Rangers in fairness. It’s not exactly a real test.

It just shows the character of the man. Seen a couple of YouTube videos on the matter and the Villa fans are pretty much gobsmacked they've been able to lure a Championship manager away to become there assistant. As I've said it says more about Critchley than it does our club.

The Villa coach who left to join QPR was reportedly on £750k. Financial security for life for Critchley even if he’s there a few years. We’ve all been in a position when you apply for another job, you hardly go round spouting it off to all and sundry. As much as it grinds us how it all unfolded it’s life I’m afraid. We move on.
I doubt Critch would have been far off 500k per year. And considering he got a new contract in January I'd imagine he was happy with his wage.

If he has had a decent increase, fair enough. It's more the deceit that will have pissed people off.

Sadler will sort it.

None of us know the full story, so to write him off as a fraud and a liar at this stage is pure guesswork.
For all we know Crtichley’s working relationship with Mansford / Sadler could have broken down; eg interference in team selection or the occasional “You’re shit” email from Sadler and, despite his love of the players and fans, felt it was best if he went.
He’ll certainly get the benefit of the doubt from me.

Better to make a statement at the time isn't it? We're 5 days onwards now and to not make a statement because you have " No Signal " is just pathetic really.

Personally I don't want to hear anything at this point. Actions speak louder than words and he's bottled a managers role for a comfort blanket role. Each to their own but the criticism is 100% understandable.

There are only two teams in Scotland and Gerrard managed one of them. Has anyone ever failed at Rangers?

I have this Tom Jones song going through my head - I'll never fall in love with a manager again - heartbroken! 😉

I've been in love so many times
Thought I knew the score
But now you've treated me so wrong
I can't take anymore

I'm never gonna fall in love again

All those things I heard about you
I thought they were only lies
But when I caught you in Stevie Gerrard's arms
I just broke down and cried

[Only kidding - I'm over it now - really I am - the **!]

yeh Your right in 3 full seasons up there he won 1 trophy in a two legged race. To put it in perspective in that time Celtic won 6! Even St.Johnstone won 2 cups!
I would expect to win more trophies as Rangers manager than slippy managed!
Dont think he’s doing anything other than just OK at Aston Villa either. Would love it if they got off to a terrible start this coming season and he and Critchley were potted before Christmas 😆

Michael Beale was his assistant at Rangers, followed him down to QPR, and by what we've heard did most of the managing work, now he's left to run QPR and Gerrard has brought in Critch as his replacement, presumably to do much the same job, which is to say be the manager in all but name.

Understood. No one seems to have much idea of how important he is in the set up. Will the club, for example, insist that he remains in place to give continuity?
I would suspect Sadler is prepared to do what is necessary to lure his no.1 candidate, if that means the current assistants leave, that's what will happen. I think it'll be another young head coach, probably with a similar background to Critchley. He won't want to have a mass clearout but will probably understand that a new man would at the very least want to pick his own no.2.

Time to look forward not back, to think of the good times and thank him for them, and to remember once again, that their appears to be no true loyalty in football, fans apart, once the chance of a lot more money and a promotion to a larger club flashes in front of the eyes.

He is not the first, he certainly won't be the last, at this club or at many others. That my fellow Seasiders is football , and yes it is hard to take.

So, let us all look forward to the appointment of our new manager and give him/her our full support.

ONWARDS AND UPWARDS.

I guess the Villa keeper doesn't know what he's talking about then: https://avftt.co.uk/index.php?threads/guess-gerrard-lost-his-balls.32336/#post-747246
Quote from Beale on Rangers tells you what Critch’s role will be:
“People always ask me: “Is Steven a coach, or is he a manager?”

Well, there are different types of coaches. You can be a tactician, a developer, a technical coach or a leader and motivator. He’s very much in the leader-manager role, and I’m very much in a development, field coach role.”

And another:
Gerrard later confirmed he had been eyeing up his coaching team long before his Ibrox appointment, and someone with Beale's knowledge and experience was always going to be a part of that.
"What I'll never do is try to do someone else's job when they are better than me at doing it," Gerrard told The Robbie Fowler Podcast.
"It would take me 15 to 20 years to become as good as Michael Beale as an on-pitch coach, delivering sessions on a daily basis, so I let Mick be Mick because he's the expert."

'Gerrard is very lucky to have him'

The responsibility Gerrard gives his right-hand man to plan and deliver sessions is hugely appreciated by Beale, and that time on the training pitch has created a lasting impact on the players he has coached.

He's not likely to slag off his boss publicly, and "leader-manager" is a very woolly term.

That pererborough showing was worthy of a “you’re shit” email without a doubt. If Critchley is a bit sensitive to criticism as Scrafton suggests in his article …perhaps at conclusion of reading the damning missive that he ought to retreat to the well paid comforts of number two/three at Aston Villa instead. It’s as plausible as any other totally unsourced gossipy stuff we are aimlessly posting whilst we await the new era!

Posters keep posting hes gone as Gerrard's No 2. He hasn't, McCallister is that. Critch is basically assistant to him as his title of his job is Ass Head Coach.

So basically his No 3.

That makes the move even more bizarre.
Don't a lot of clubs have two assistants?
We certainly did under Critch.

Villa have a head coach (Gerrard) and then 2x assistant head coaches. One was Beale and one was McCallister. Now Critch has stepped in for Beale. He and McCallister will be equals.

Not coming out and saying anything is an absolute disgrace. A fake quote which far too many believed went around and Chris Hull on twitter said hed been in touch with Critch about it:

That for me makes it worse, he is awaiting guidance from two clubs before he says owt. The heart on sleeve stuff was bollocks then as that is as robotic and celebrity PR as you can get. If he was waiting for the emotion to die down he has just rubbed salt in the wounds.

Yeah, like I've said, we literally don't need an explanation a week later. You went for the money and less pressure. Simple really.

The offer of the Villa job was the first real test of his commitment and he jumped ship

Very disappointing Critch, we believed in you and your vision for the club and you mugged us right off. Bellend!!
So if you were offered 3-4 times the salary you’re on now (assuming you work) for a less stressful job now being a No2 you’d turn it down?
Everyone’s does it players/managers no loyalty in football you simply follow the bucks.

This article describes the interview that took place on Amazon Prime. Beale was seen more as a co-manager than a no. 2.

Maybe some of us will need to readjust our beliefs about what attracted Critch to the millionaire job. It's definitely a step up in my eyes. Big responsibility at a big Premier League club.

The flip side of that however is that you're not giving the benefit of any doubt to SS BM & BG.

You doubt their conduct to Quitch, after Quitch repeatedly stated, which is on record, how much support and encouragement he gets from all three of them and he couldn't be more thankful for everything they do for him. One of his gushing statements in that ilk came just before the end of the season, I'm sure at the NW football awards.

The management structure above Quitch have proven themselves willing and able to back him and others ultimately leading to continued success. They also just pledged to sort out 35 years of neglected infrastructure, which I have no doubt they'll complete on.

I'm far more inclined to give the ownership and management structure the benefit of the doubt on this one.

We're still waiting to hear from silent Quitch though arn't we, which for me is deafening.

You're alright thanks you turncoat knob, there's nothing I need to hear, especially anything that has gone through 'guidance'.

You should have said on the day you went, anything else is bollocks.

Just a thought, couldn’t we have politely declined Villa? I’m not sure any gentleman's agreement (if there was one) would have included moving on to be an assistant somewhere.
