Since this idiot has been our manager

Maybe just maybe the difference was two midfield players who can actually pass the ball tonight

BTW do you actually go to games these days?
I am also now thinking that the senior players' thing after the last game was a bit more than MM is letting on.
I am now thinking some home truths were aimed at him as well from the senior players for such a stark change tonight.

MM has brought it all on himself with his style of football, formations, tactics, and team selections. He has marginalised all of the creative players and turned us into the ā€œ Blackpool donkeys ā€œ, who also work hard every day, have little to show for their efforts apart from a pile of crap they leave on the field.

It is time he gave the Blackpool team the confidence to go for a win and encourage the attacking players to express themselves and make a real difference. Yes they will make mistakes and not everything they try will come off but they will create a lot more goal opportunities and hopefully score a few goals as well.

Here is my preferred team for the home game v QPR tonight in a 4-4-2 formation with Yates and Bowler instructed to stay up front and not keep tracking back, this tactic will keep at least 3 of the QPR defenders fully occupied defensively. The midfield players will be encouraged to always look to pass the ball forward and between the lines. Passing the ball quickly and accurately, preferably on the floor will be reinforced. The two front men and 3 of the 4 midfielders (excluding Dougall) to be encouraged to get forward and seek to press the QPR defenders and try to turn over the ball in the final third.

Starting X1 tonight ā€” Maxwell, Gabriel, Nelson, Thorniley, Husband, Poveda, Patino, Dougall, Rogers, Bowler and Yates.

Subs:- Grimshaw, Connolly, Thompson or Garbutt, Fiorini, Lyons, Carey, Keshi or CJ.

What do you think, worth a go?
6-1 with his own team which includes Patino ,what do we know. [In respect to Patino who played well ,there was no strong winds and little rain for a change ,this giving him the chance to play his game on a relatively flat pitch].

I was waiting for an apology from you Wizard, after such a great performance and result you still find it difficult to give credit. Your grudging appreciation of Patino is embarrassing. Surely you must have enjoyed the game last night or were you reflecting on missed opportunities

I have had to wait 10 League games for McCarthy to show some attacking intent. The tactics, formation, starting X1 last night were not what I would expect from McCarthy but hereā€™s hoping he has finally learnt something.

ā€ McCarthyā€™s own team ā€œ of course it was, in case you forgot he is the Manager who has been picking the team for the last 2 months. This was the first time McCarthy has picked 5 attacking players in his starting X1 and set us up to go out and take the game to the opposition. All of the players deserve credit as whatever was said in the dressing room certainly paid dividends as they went out as a team with definitely something to prove.

My highlights were the 5 attacking players in the starting X1 all with a licence to go forward. Pressing QPR in the final third of the pitch, winning the ball back and then moving it forward at every opportunity. Making lots of chances and taking 6 of them.
We went for it right from the kick off and even at 1-0 we still pressed forward and went 3-0 up after 15 minutes. it was only in the last 20 minutes we sat back, got behind the ball and conceded possession as we managed out the game and the result.

We were never over run in midfield as you predicted and Maxwell had one of his easiest games.

I kept telling you we had the players, 3 of the players we signed in Jan were outstanding ā€”Nelson, Lyons and Rogers. Two of our loanees in central midfield ā€” Fiorini and Patino were excellent but for me the star player of the night was CJ Hamilton who at times was unplayable.

I still canā€™t believe it, 6 goals in 90 minutes after we had only scored 5 goals in Mickā€™s previous 9 games.

I know some people will say that QPR were very poor, my answer would be that we made them look very poor and after 15 minutes they looked shell shocked. They clearly never expected Blackpool to come at them like that, McCarthy is normally so predictable but last night he wasnā€™t.

The actual attendance excluding STHs who didnā€™t turn up looked less than 9000, letā€™s hope for a full house on Saturday against Coventry.

I know it is only 1 game but last night proved to me that we do have a team and a squad good enough to stay in the Championship. McCarthy needs to get our best players playing in their best positions and doing what they do best and then trust them to deliver. I am sure McCarthy will have been reflecting last night on missed opportunities in his previous 9 games but he needs to forget that and focus on the remaining 9 games and ensure he builds on last nightā€™s excellent performance and result and starts to build up some momentum.

The players and fans went home last night with big smiles on their faces, please can we have more of the same Mick.

I don't owe anyone an apology as what I have written has been the truth. Patino has been next to useless in most of his recent previous games . He is not physical ,fast or tall . His ability comes down to making passes and beating the odd player, that highlights his ability . When he has played in cold ,wet and windy conditions ,he has been next to useless and a number of Blackpool fans were calling him names and saying he was not fit to wear the shirt after his sending off [I was not one of them]

In respect to last night ,we have put pressure on a number of teams for the first few minutes and then become defensive and under pressure ourselves. The difference last night was we actually scored from our early pressure. This gave us confidence to go for more.

Finally there have been a number of games where we have had 4 or 5 attacking players . We just didn't have a midfield to support them. Florini did ok ,but his set plays were very poor . Anyway ,1 thing we do agree on ,lets hope for more of the same on Saturday.

And you know more than the coaching staff at Arsenal?
The best we have played in midfield since Florini and Patino last played together away at QPR

Anybody who doesn't rate Patino should honestly take up a different sport
He's not worked for us on a few occasions for whatever reason... I think at times he's playing at a level that's beyond the players around him... Looking to play balls quick that they don't anticipate and it maybe doesn't fit together quite so well... He seems to work well with Fiorini, but at the moment it's clicked for us is a couple of games and then we fall to bits again.... Let's hope we can maybe put a mini run together and drag ourselves out of this shit.

Patino had gone a bit off the boil a while back, he's a young lad, has never played a full season in such a tough league against men, they can be inconsistent. None of our lot were really pulling up any trees either.

Much better from him last night.

Like all of our players if played right they have a part to play.

But no one is above being benched, often players can come back positively from it.

He's sat a few out, maybe too many but he looked back to what we expect to see last night šŸ‘

Great report Ball on Fire

I honestly think if the crowd want it for the rest of the season our 12th man can carry us through the rest of the season - we have to win ALL our home matches so come on the 12th man.

After a great performance and result last night Wiz and letā€˜s try to keep positive about all of the players. The past is the past and we canā€™t change it, we now need to fully focus on the next 9 games and use last night as our starting point.

This complete turnaround by Mick McCarthy last night was very welcome. I donā€™t know what brought about this complete change in direction, but Iā€™m not bothered, for the first time under McCarthy I feel there is some hope. He got the tactics, formation and starting X1 spot on and for the first time this season we played to our strengths, we were on the front foot, taking the game to the opposition and were looking very threatening in the final third of the pitch. I have to admit when we went 1-0 up I thought McCarthy may revert to type and put everybody back behind the ball but he didnā€™t, and all credit to him, we went for the jugular and were 3-0 up in 15 mins and 4-1 up at half time. The half time team talk changed nothing and we were soon 5-1 up and cruising. The Pool players must have loved playing in that match and to be able to show their full potential. Pool fans now have something else to talk about other than the backs to the wall 0-0 draw at home against Burnley.

Canā€™t wait to see the team McCarthy selects on Saturday, he has plenty of options as Gabriel, Bowler and Poveda were all unused subs last night and there were no new injuries.

Totally agree, I was at home in Hampshire and watched the match on the Sky Sports red button. The noise from the Pool supporters was so loud my wife kept telling me to turn the volume on the TV down but for the first time in my life I ignored her!!

I loved the new songs and especially the joy and disbelief as the goals went in on the Pool fans faces.

The feel good factor at BR was certainly back again and the atmosphere was reminiscent of when Ollie was our Manager.

You are right, Patino is very highly rated at Arsenal and in December he signed a new long term contract with them. We couldnā€™t buy Patino for Ā£5M even if Arsenal were willing to let him go and the player wanted to come. We should embrace these young players on loan and be very grateful to all of these Premier League Clubs who have entrusted Blackpool to play a key role in their development.

We would have scored 8 if we had a long throw in specialist šŸ˜”
We could have scored 10 if we had continued to go for it instead of declaring in the last 20 minutes.

Does anybody know the last time we scored 6 goals at home in the Championship?

This thread makes fascinating reading with the benefit of hindsight. Yes it was a good performance and an energised team but we need more of the same every week to have a chance.

That said I do think McCarthy deserves credit. It has clearly been his priority to sort out the defence. As I have always said no team is successful unless they have a good defence. It has been clear that most of the coaching has been about set up and positioning when defending and you can see how that has developed during the time heā€™s been here.

My theory is that he has refused to allow them to attack until they have got the defensive shape right. It was noticeable last night that they automatically slotted into their defensive shape after the early flurry which was good to see.

Of course we were at fault for the goal but they way we hit them on the break at pace was impressive. The key is clearly that we need to score first which is something we have struggled to do. Letā€™s hope we can get the points against Coventry and go from there.

Sorry I think you are completely wrong, Mick was getting desperate, he listened to the players and took on board what they told him. The formation, style of play, tactics and team selection was nothing like anything we had seen before from McCarthy and I agree with you if you are suggesting he has wasted 9 of the 19 games sorting out the defence. The best form of defence is attack especially in home games. In addition I was both excited and entertained last night.

We all know that Critch keeps in contact with players he has previously worked with. As you mentioned theories, what do you think of the theory that Critch provided a detailed brief to one of the Pool players on how to set the team up to beat QPR and this information was then passed on to McCarthy. Far fetched I hear you say, but nothing like as far fetched as your theory that McCarthy ā€œ refused to let us attack until he got the defensive shape right ā€œ Mick is well known for his defensive, backs to the wall, no nonsense style of football and it is beyond belief that he would use half of the remaining 19 games when he came in to get the defensive shape right before letting us attack. What we saw last night surprised me and QPR as well and it was a very welcome and overdue change and a complete breath of fresh air from McCarthy but letā€™s not kids ourselves that we ever thought he had this in his locker.
