Hopefully the club can negotiate with Shane Lavery to extend his contact. He can currently leave for free at the end of the season and we really do need to get him on a long term deal. He WILL score goals at this level and that is vital for any team. He was treated dreadfully by Appleton last year and played out wide instead of down the middle where he is most effective (Another reason why Appleton was a total duck egg). We should be pushing the boat out to keep him as his goals could be season defining.

I think that ship has sailed personally, rarely will a player in decent form extend their contract in its final year unless they're being offered big bucks. If he bangs in 20+ goals this season and is available on a free all the cards are with Lavery and his agent, he could sign a new contract with us then but he'd be in an even better position to negotiate a deal with a new club with higher wages and a decent signing on fee.

Or he could get injured and be out of a job in June! An improved contract with a release clause is the obvious solution and probably the best option for both club and player, IMO.

It's a good job you raised this and hopefully someone from the club sees it so to remind them.
