Shrewsbury Town - a real bogey club

We really have a dreadful record v the Shrews,
Out of 23 games against them we have won only five.
They have won 10 of the last 13, the other three being drawn.
Our last win was on New Year's Day 1997 3-1 away.
Last win at home was February 1996.
Would be good to get this monkey off our back on Saturday but those stats are very worrying.
I cant think of another club off the top of my head where we have such a poor history.

How bad is that😂

Liverpool or Man Utd yes but Shrewsbury😂

We've come on on the wrong end aginst some better sides so if we want to be up there.... we'll have to beat some worse sides.

According to some on here, Critchley should be coming out and saying we should be battering these 🤣🤣

Well they have lost 5 of their last 6 away games and drawn the other so we better win !!!!
Remember when we played Bristol Rovers a few years ago,,they were on a bad run ,,,pool scored first ,,,then were battered 3-1 ,,,Pool seem to have a history of losing to teams that have been on a realy bad run ,,,

Stats are formed from football happening, not the other way around.

We need to show our class and put in a performance...for the whole game. If we do and hit the levels were capable of we can have too much for many sides.

However...

Cheltenham had score 2 goals all season and we were 3 up. They scored 2 against us and we sat back and went into panic defending mode.

Fleetwood had struggled to score at home hadn't they and we were defensively weak there too.

Must do better.

Yeh, but you just know its going to be the old.....no easy games, they're a good team, some really tough players, blah blah blah.

In fact big up the opposition so much our lads think it's a champions league game against Citeh/Madrid🤦

It'll probably end up 0-0 just like the matches against those powerhouses Exrter and Port Vale where ever game them too much respect !!

They won’t beat us if critchley has anything to do with it, they’ll have to get the ball off our defence who will be passing it around between themselves.

I’d love to see that, but it doesn’t happen too often, Pep is the master of course, but all 10 players are constantly on the move to create space for a pass forward,.

We build from the back. To the back. To further back. And further back from then. I'm sure if we could play football behind our goal we would.
We do need to get better and master it, however some say stop faffing at the back which basically means hoof it.

It'll just come straight back if we did that constantly. The odd one to Kouassi if he's playing can work.

A lot of people wanted Lavery and Rhodes up top, little point in going long tike after time to a strike force like that.

Isn't a bogey team one typically below or at your level that you lose disproportionately to? Makes sense Shrewsbury could fit that bill, we should always lose to United and Liverpool really. In a way you could say we're Liverpool's bogey team 😉

Just a quirk of the stats I'm sure. The 11 we put out on Saturday will probably never have played vs. Shrews for Blackpool, so I'm not worried 😬😉

Yes he should, nowt like a bit of positive energy from him.
If we have real aspirations of promotion we need to win these games
For the hundredth time, find me one press conference ever for any team, where any manager has ever said in public that they should be battering someone.

Very good👏

I doubt if the players bother looking at stats, Critchley needs to motivate the team & no complacency at all. Oh & he needs to pick the best players too.

I saw us beat them 5-0 in about 78/79. They were on a massive FA Cup run at the time, when the FA Cup was a big thing. They'd just beaten Man City on a pitch covered in snow and straw and then Ipswich who were the cup holders I think. Our game was a night match sandwiched in between the cup games due to postponement due to weather.

I've just been talking to my Shrews supporting friend at work. He says they're that bad to watch he's not even going. I enquired why.

Pass around sideways, back to keeper, hoof, rubbish. Was his explanation.

Really? I replied politely.

But what do they play like? 🤷

Yep we murdered them and someone else at the top around the same time - they brought quite a following (some were in the South Stand) all leaving after the 4th went in — Bobby Kerr was tremendous btw

I was at the 1997 game and would have sworn it was 2-0 to us, not 3-1

I remember Andy Preece scoring 2 or hace I imagined that as well

Watched them play Cambridge United a few weeks ago, both teams played rubbish and it finished 1-1.
Thought at the time that we will have no problems beating these two teams - but who knows with Pool.

Just from a language point of view - I wonder why bogey is used as a term for a side you can't beat when it's also used as a bogey in golf and a bogey up your nose?
