Shoot! League Ladders

Remember them well. Used to get the mag every so often. The annual my Grandparents got me every Christmas. I remember the one with Lineker on the cover the most.

I begged my mum for a Shoot subscription after seeing the first season's league ladders. Then, second season, I got them, complete with Blackpool! I do hope my memory's correct.

Bought it every week, first editions advertisement was a 4ft cardboard cut out of Franny Lee striking a ball. Mr Neil of Neil’s newsagents Holmfield rd gave it me after a couple of weeks. Happy day’s when you’re 8 or 9. His head fell off after a couple of months. Gutted 😔

Interesting to see Bradford Park Avenue at the bottom of the fourth division. They were rejected by the other League clubs, coming bottom for the third time, at the end of that season even though their top scores, RAY CHARNLEY, had scored 12 goals for them. Played in the NPL for four years before going out of business.

They were re-formed in 1988 and were founder members of the Central Midland League. Since then they have gradually ascended the football ladder and now play art Horseforth Stadium in the National League North.

Even before their reformation, there were still Bradford Residents who hated Bradford City and refused to go to their games, instead, proudly wearing the colours (Green and White) of Park Avenue.

I loved getting these before the start of the season and then looking at the league tables in the Sunday paper and updating the league ladders, this was of course when 99% of weekend matches were played on a Saturday at 3pm!! Simpler but very enjoyable times😊

My brother still has hundreds of shoot magazines in the red binders, I'll be amazed if he hasn't got the league ladders

Do they still do them? Notice a set from the late 60's was going for nearly £80!

Great thread! Wow, yes this brings back some happy memories as a kid updating the league tables before any print material came out. Kind of felt like you knew what the tables looked like before the rest of the world found out!

Remember Neil's well, as we were local, too. Hope you're well, dodgy.

I seen these posted somewhere the other day.

That's a tremendous find. So don't Shoot or Match exist anymore? What about 4-4-2? Not seen a football magazine in years.

There's not that many decent newsagents around these days to get the opportunity, only Smiths and they are diminishing in number.
Only thinking the same the other day. Far less demand for newspapers & cigarettes these days.
Back to op, brilliant, got shoot every week for many years & loved the league ladders. Another one making sure prescum never moved up a notch.
