I've read a lot of comments on this board today and to be honest it has been shameful. I honestly believe that some of our supporters have forgotten what it is to support a football team. Obviously, everything bad that happens in the world is down to Critchley and CJ.
It has been a frustrating season but far from disastrous and seventh/eight is about where we deserve to be. If Jordan Rhodes had not had those two successive injuries and re-discovered his scoring touch then it could have been very different. Rhodes not only offered goals but his experience definitely helped the team and more importantly the forward line. It was no coincidence that Beesley and Joseph were more effective when playing alongside Rhodes.
I have been critical of Critchley particularly his obsession with 3 at the back but some of the players need to hold their hands up too. Stability, is important in football. Portsmouth, Derby and Bolton are the best supported teams and have had a few seasons to build their squads to meet the demands of Lg1.
I still think we lack some football nous at the top of the football club. Someone to oversee the football side of the business, to guide the coaches and identify what we're doing right, what we're doing wrong and what we need to become better. Barry Fry at P'Boro and Mick Harford at Luton have been important figures at those clubs.
By the way the season is not over. Portsmouth will want to wrap up the Lg1 Championship by hopefully thumping Barnsley and Oxford face two tricky home games. Against Barnsley we may still have the opportunity by winning to take it to the last game of the season.
