Seasiders Podcast - tonight 8.30pm

Answering the pundits, as much as Kenny is a nomad Mrs Kenny is a home bird (Cotswolds).
So who wears the trousers?
But Mrs Dougall's podcast today was entitled "Home Alone".
If Kenny didn't travel, where was he?

As for the Grimmy penalty and a sending off. Has anyone on the panel heard about "double jeopardy"? Where do they find these people? 😁

For the benefit of the panel Norburn's had 4 shots this season, Kenny has had 17, Carey 34.

Interesting comments on the training ground so here's another. Some very preliminary, preliminary work was done last week in preparation for the East Stand.

Good podcast, it's very disappointing watching us completely underperform in too many games and completely unable to go on any sort of run.

It's like we go through the motions when it's not going right, we just don't have a clue what to do and repeat the same shite. NC doesn't react fast or really try anything different.

We look like the players don't have the mentality to win games regularly, when the going gets tough. Maybe they just aren't mentality prepared for the pressure of being a team in the playoff hunt and a nice easy mid table season is more comfortable.

Despite 3 CB's we can look clueless at the back at times, slow players, not solid at all, poor sides able to cut through too easily.

All very disappointing.

The reason we presumably got NC back was because 1) he'd done it before 2) we could hit the ground running as a club as he knew the players, club etc. Well, the season start didn't do that, given the new formation and other reasons, no plan b maybe, plan A also not good enough.

But one thing I noticed is we didn't really try and pass the ball enough on Sat, we did a few passes and as soon as the easy passes were done it was often a long punt up field.

That's not becoming a passing team, it's taking the easy option. When we did pass it more 2nd half it was side to side and useless cross in. Where is the beating of a man, 1-2, through balls etc.

A proper passing team, which we've had enough time now to adjust to, should be dominating, quick passing, keep probing, mix it up occasionally but stick to our principles, wear them down. It was all very slow for us and predictable.

The aim was clearly stated to go back up this season and that's why he's here.

Right now, we're failing and once teams play tye same number of games could easily be far from the playoffs. That's not good enough or acceptable for me.

We simply cannot afford the usual Christmas run now, which is putting pressure on NC but it is what it is. Any more losses over Christmas could almost end the season, we simply must win for me.

Yeah, it's like when the pressure is on sometimes we're neither fish nor fowl.

I e. Us fans want us banging it in the box and putting the keeper under pressure and such. Critch wants them doing little triangles and moving and sticking to the principles.

We end up doing neither and falling into this kind of toothless in between state of some sideways passing and floaty pointless crosses.

I think the players are too comfortably, easy win followed by utter dross no matter who we are playing.

So used to losing last season. That this is just acceptable. It isn't a team full of winners that's for sure.

We seem to lack those leader types on the pitch that our successful teams seem to have had. The driven types that keep everybody focused and at 100% whatever the state of the game. And it quite possibly extends to the touchline. Definitely missing an ingredient. Who has the drive, the determination to win every game and force us into promotion contention? Requires a strength of will and an ability to transmit it to others.

It's the dynamic isn't it? Doesn't take a huge amount to change it.

I think that's why I'm not as totally doom laden as perhaps some others are. In a group of 20, a couple of people can make a huge impact on that group.

We really need to think carefully about how we recruit. We've got plenty of players good enough for this division and some better than it.

What we need I think as much as more 'good players' is Gary Madine a couple of players who just won't accept defeat and are willing to lead on the pitch when we need it - which is when we're up against it and the plan A tactics aren't working. Ones who gee the others up and get in their ear and just force losses into draws and draws into wins.

We've rarely won ugly this year. That's the problem in a nutshell I think. We've got loads of nice footballers and we play some very nice football but you can't just do that and not the ugly stuff.

I think Norburn has the winner mentality and is suitably demanding of those around him. Unfortunately he's not been playing well enough to live up to it. Unless the opposition let us take the initiative we play with a serious lack of passing tempo. Wide players too often being stuck on the wrong foot is a key part of this problem.

Actually felt Raggy spoke a lot of sense there - might be a pessimist but I'd say he was being more a of a realist.
Excellent as always from @TwelveAngryMen and @td53 - only got halfway through @TwelveAngryMen - you eluded at one point to the 'real problem' .. did you ever reveal what it was?

A lot of good points made by both yourself and others here.

To me, it feels like we have the technicality, but not enough of the attitude. When I first saw Norburn, I thought, ‘yes, that’s the midfield general we’ve lacked for years’. He was first to everything.

Coming back from injury is never straightforward. The players are usually itching to get back on the pitch but they also don’t want to get injured again.

Fair point - pound to a penny he's still having neck trouble plus that smack in the ribs at Bolton. Generally our midfield doesn't quite add up together yet, despite the investment in it though. If Dougall goes in Jan I fear for us.

Agreed. Sort the middle out and I think we are top six.

There were a couple of games with Bridcutt in last season before it went terribly wrong that I thought we’d found what we needed.

More recently, there was a time earlier this season that I thought our midfield was sorted- but we’ve lacked a consistent pairing of say Dougall/Carey or Norburn/Dougall (surprisingly, it seems the former is more successful?).

Hopefully Kenny stays in Jan. If he doesn’t- we’d better have our eye on someone who can hit the ground running. A higher level loan wouldn’t be a bad thing to bring in some hungry quality.

Our consistency has also struggled due to random selections or due to fitness issues. We’re having a bit of an ‘almost but not quite’ season so far.
