Anyone else get caught in this yesterday?

45 mins to cross Shard bridge but that will improve as Mains Lane will be a dead end.

As for the rest.......

The only benefit this new multi million pound bypass will bring is to the owners of the multi million pound houses on Mains Lane, they will benefit massively as will their house prices.
All this multi million pound bypass will do for the rest of us plebs is cause two bottle necks one at Skippool which is already happening and the 2nd at Windy Harbour again.
Whoever made the decision that this would aid traffic flow by installation of another set of traffic lights, which stop traffic flow should be forced to sit in these jams they have created every single morning from 7:30 till 9:00 and every single evening between 4:30 and 6:30 - t055ers 🤬🤬

I was sat in it coming back on Friday. All the way from Windy Harbour to Skipool. 45 mins.
Those tossers have removed a perfectly good roundabout and stuck this massive new junction with traffic lights, causing tailbacks in every direction.
Think they should be put in the Poulton stocks and pelted endlessly, tbh.
And that new humongous footbridge into a muddy field is an absolute piśś take.

They should have made a dual carriageway to Norcross, widened the bridge, kept the existing 2 roundabouts (with no traffic lights). The bypass should come out at the motorway junction and Mains Lane should remain open. No change was needed to that road other than easier access to the garage. Garstang Rd up to the Shell station should have 2 lanes westbound.
Seems like the incompetence is unrelenting. Emphasis is on the few pedestrians rather than thousands of traffic flow. Sod the motorists- let them queue. 😡

Tn, come on, you're asking them to be sensible and do what is best. 😉

Every cloud and that Benny 😜

The Planners. Traffic management.
The fund for easing congestion they grabbed and unbelievably made it worse.
Ah you mean National Highways, the rebranded shitshow which was formerly known as Highways England. Not the public sector at its best. And whatever anyone says, it is the public sector. Surprisingly they contract out this sort of work to some of the best design engineers in the industry. But usually so they have someone else to blame.
Isn’t the chaos at the moment because of temporary lights rather than the completed scheme? Not been that way for some weeks for obvious reasons.

I wonder if anyone involved in the decision making process happens to live on Mains Lane?
I have a property between Singleton village and the junction.

The consultation was pretty extensive, it took years. We first heard about it in about 2017 I think.

It's very early days to decide whether it's been a success -- it can't be judged on the current inconvenience as it's just not finished. I've played enough SimCity that the plans SEEM sensible and I do think it'll let the traffic move much more freely when it's done.

As for the value of the properties, it's early to say. The new road is within 100ft of my boundary, so it'll be a while until we understand the noise impact. As for the actual construction, it's been quite sensitively dealt with in my area; the road is going to be in quite a deep cutting so I shouldn't see anything from my window.

I realise a lot of people like to vent about change, but my neighbours and I have been pretty happy on the whole. Yes it's a hassle living in the middle of a building site at the moment, but the traffic through our village was a ** nightmare for the last 15 or so years. Any improvement is welcomed.

So did some of the best design engineers in the industry come up with the death traps which are smart motorways?
If that's the case the bar must be pretty low for design engineers.

I was at Norcross roundabout on Sunday coming from the T-C end and the lights turned green so I slowly pulled out only to find the lights were still green for the traffic coming from my right

Thankfully avoided a collision but WTF

Even when the lights are working correctly, that new Norcross roundabout is shite! I avoid it when I'm on my motorbike
as I've nearly been knocked off twice. First by a car and then a bus, who were both in the wrong lane and cut
across me. And I've seen quite a few accidents there since it opened. It's a very confusing roundabout, especially if
you don't know it.

I now know which lane to be in, anyone who doesn’t takes their life in their hands

Yes once you've used it a few times, you suss out how to use it properly. But unfortunately other people don't, especially ones who
haven't used it before. I know people should use it correctly, but it is very confusing and there's a lot of lane swapping going on.
Not good when you're on two wheels.

Even knowing which lane you’re supposed to be in, coming from the Skipool roundabout to norcross, you have a choice of two lanes which filter into one, it’s a recipe for disaster

Back when the Highways Agency was called Highways England, yes. But the original concept was changed to become the even greater death trap that they are now. And then some genius overlooked it was the National Highways’ clowns who would have operational control.

They will still get the noise from the traffic.

It’s been bad for a while but the temporary lights have made it worse. Not that there’s an end in sight, because it will then become permanent lights on a road which already has too much traffic to cope. I’ve no problem with pedestrian crossings, but never on a roundabout - move them to around the corner of the junctions for the handful of people who might need it.
Seems to be a common theme, like the shïtshow Norcross roundabout which used a fund designated for easing congestion, under the excuse of improving safety (when there’s now accidents there every day).
The promenade in summer in now a rolling roadblock from with the 1 lane and stacks of crossings.
Etc etc

On another topic - anyone else seen the collection of speed cameras on tall yellow poles going in and out of Hambleton.
That’s going to be a nice little cash cow for them.
The absolute b’stards.

Yes noticed that.
The old speed camera near The Shovels has gone but there are now several others ( on the yellow poles) in its place.
Are they average speed cameras?

Yes. The old camera has gone. Replaced by about 8 of these new cameras. That would be my guess. They certainly look like others I’ve seen. They go all the way up to Moy vets, where speed limit changes along that stretch. It will catch loads out.

Added to the shit show is just how bloody long it is taking them. There is literally nobody there at all? I’ve never seen more than 4 people at one time and normally there is nobody.

We have all travelled abroad and seen hordes of road workers, working overnight under floodlights and within days a whole frigging stretch of highway is as good as new or literally brand new.

Why are we so inept?

I’ve heard the average speed cameras are going all the way through from Hambleton to Pilling

Apparently they are ‘working in the fields’ 🤣

Would love to see someone try and get a wheelchair up & down that gigantic unnecessary footbridge. Reckon Luke Stoltman would only make the first side.

I genuinely thought they were pulling a fast one and banging a new rail line and station in when I saw it.

I’m assuming the whole master plan is about having another 10,000 homes built in the area and the road allows fields to now be built upon?

Average speed check now from Hambleton to Cockerham.

I’m hoping they can train the cameras to get up in quiet periods and go and solve some burglaries or muggings?
Maybe we can robotic speed cameras that actually give a shit when a woman is raped too?
Unfortunately nothing so grand, but with the latest camera technology they also take fabulous pictures inside the vehicle. As the two people I work with can testify. One captured with no seat belt and the other using a mobile phone. The picture was that clear you could even see the make of phone he had in his hand.

Yep you've got it - watch that green space (disappear) 🤬🤬

Also, if people aren’t already aware, takes about 30-40 mins to get out of Poulton at peak times as traffic heading down Breck Rd gets stuck in the shïtshow tailback and anyone who thinks they can escape via the Castle Gardens route has a similar or worse fate, as everyone is doing the same.
