Rhodes announced

Come on Jordan!
In 2009 Ipswich released two young players on frees. Jordan signed for Udders as his family lived in Barnsley and we signed Billy Clarke. Hmmmm! 14 years later we’ve got our man at last. Great signing (pending a big £1m CF?)

Good experience all the way through the team now. I wouldn't class this as a wow signing, it's decent though. I don't think we'd have signed him if Kyle Joseph was fit.

What we need now is one or two permanent young players in with the ability to create, but are also good enough to slot straight into the first team and not the development squad. They're the expensive ones that we've really struggled to acquire for a while now, but the one's that will be the difference between going up, or not.

Reasonably happy with this, I dont think it's a wow signing but it's in a position that we desperately need and brings experience to a position that we need it in as well. I still think he can do a job at this level, wouldn't surprise me if he gets double digits for us.

The Club can't win can they. If Rhodes had gone to Bolton Wigan or wherever there'd be people moaning why didn't we snap him up. He's joined us, people are still moaning. Good luck to him, if he still knows where the net is, he'll get us goals.

Note to Jordan. Recently a massive percentage of our fanbase have turned into entitled bell ends.

Billy Clarke was unbelievable until injuries got the better of him - I’ll never forget that performance against Preston

If anyone else would have been in for Rhodes he would have gone there ahead of here …..

Bolton and Wigan didnt want him though! 😆

The last few times I have seen him he has come off the bench. We've desperately needed someone to do that in the last couple of games, but had nobody to replace Beesley. Rhodes will give us that.

However, I do feel like we could do with another up top. Rhodes won't be able to start game after game and, to be honest, I'm not convinced that Beesley is good enough for a top six L1 club.

Good signing especially if we intend to bring in another striker. I would think the club will want 30 games from him approximately starting or from the bench. Also I expect better tight control from him and link up play than the other 2.

I must be one of the few on here that's actually quite happy with this. Its a sensible one, but I think he has something to give at this level. The Championship is alot faster than League 1 and Rhodes main issues there is that he has lost his pace. He will still have good positioning inside the box and know how to finish. I think him and Lavery will be decent up front if they get service. We now need someone to give them service.

Career stats: 528 league appearances - 229 goals - Average 1 goal every 2.3 games

Last 2 seasons: 51 league appearances, 8 goals

Copied this from another post, but I think this gives a more accurate representation of his last 2 seasons than just games played/goals scored.
He's played the equivalent of 24 matches in the last two seasons, scoring 8.
Which might not sound much, but it's the same scoring rate as the likes of Nahki Wells, Will Keane and.......Jerry Yates achieved in the Championship last season

Could be a dave Bamber could be a chris malkin
It just bothers me that it looks like it's a signing made out of desperation instead of Cosgrove who may have cost a few shekels more in wages but has youth on his side
The clock is ticking ..
Will we find the combination to the transfer kitty safe in time??

Cosgrove is on 16k a week and Charlton are going to be paying 90% of his wages, I doubt we can afford that when we don't have a single player on 10k a week

I don’t think many will disagree with this much.

The problem is it’s just a bit dull. Another free transfer. Another player that probably wouldn’t have had many offers from elsewhere.

I hope he comes good and don’t think it’s a bad signing, but it’s not going to get anyone off their seat. It’s not going to get any fans who aren’t st holders to think… you know what I might go down next weekend (if they weren’t already).

The only signings that I think have been real statements are Norburn and Weir. For a club that’s just come down from the division below we need more

Probably sums up where we are as a club. Loaning a 33 year old who has spent majority of the last few seasons as a substitute. Better than having no alternative to Beesley I guess.

I agree with this, I'd love for us to bring in a big marquee signing, just think there's a few that have already wrote him off before he's kicked a ball.

Derby wanted Rhodes too, I guarantee you if they had signed him the same people slagging him off would be moaning that we didn’t get him.
Hed be a typical Derby signing and it wouldn't have bothered me if they had, in all honesty.

But if he has the desire and the motivation for a career swansong he may provide enough goals to justify loaning him.

I think he will be decent at League 1 level. The downside is he's lost a bit of pace
