Pub or Restaurant

So if Pubs have to close, what is the definition of a pub?

Look at the new Half way house, Plum Tree Farm, Waters Edge, they are restaurants within pubs? will they have to close? (if we get a top tier lockdown,) but the same will be so in all areas??

I don’t think we are getting top tier, I think Merseyside are but the rest of us with current extra restrictions will be at level 2. If I’m understanding it right.

No you are not reading it right. If you watched what Boris said, Merseyside had agreed to the restrictions and negotiation was ongoing with the north west, north east and Yorkshire and Humber.

Well if it actually turns out to be different to what I’ve suggested come back and let us know. If you really must.

Not that LaLa needs me to stick up for her but imho Ladies have a right to be touchy when they are confronted by someone being rather Arsey.
As for the pub or restaurant bit Mackie Ds will still be open.

If I was being arsey then I would have suggested that the little lady actually watched or read the full details, before posting what is fake news.

I asked the same question on another thread. Loads of “pubs” no devote most of their floor space to food, so could they close the area normally used for drinkers and use the tables for further dining?

It’s going to be interesting how they control this.

Are there differences or conditions connected to the alcohol licence that might have an effect.

Alternatively, could the government impose a condition that alcohol can only be served with food.

In extremis, could the government ban the sale of alcohol on the premises (but allow customers to bring their own and allow the establishment to impose a "corkage" charge).

I’m sure there must be a link

A pub which sells substantial meals is exempt.
In other words, the likes of Wetherspoons,Hungry Horse and Harvester pubs can stay open on Merseyside. You need to order food though.

I’ve friends in Liverpool and they’re saying pubs in Liverpool can stay open if they can act as a restaurant and they can serve alcohol with a meal. So make your meal last whilst you have ten pints ?

Ok what about this as a suggestion for the guidelines? 🤪 😂

If there are loads of blokes stood around swilling pints, talking about sport, swearing, farting & telling lewd jokes its a pub.
If there are ladies sat at tables drinking wine & chatting about nails & hair whist occasionally perusing a menu its a pub/restaurant.
If everybody is seated & waiting for food to be served its a restaurant.

Most pubs as pubs have gone. But there are still quite a few left. Myself, I'd much rather be in a pub than a pub-turned-restaurant. And as for the gastro-pub end of the market, I'd see them burn before Satan before I'd choose one over a proper pub.

So I'll take that as an either or??
