Possession Stats.

Doesn't tell you anything. 31% / 69% in Wigan's favour most of it across their back 4. And who were the better team?
The possession stat. should measure possession only in the opposition's half. Good idea?

In commentary, Micky Mellon quite rightly stated that you can dominate a game without the ball, and that's what we were doing perfectly, not letting Wigan close to our box in open play...granted, a few stupid fouls gave them a chance to hoof it into the box, but that's it (mostly).

Anyway, I'm sure there are a ton of stats that can be broken down in any way you wish. Simple possession stats are easy for people to process without the added complexity of where on the pitch it was.

Southampton had the same 68% possession as Wigan and got beat 5 0.

It's a meaningless stat without context, as it includes possession by the keeper and centre half to'ing and fro'ing.

Be interesting to know the stats in the last 20 mins compared to the first 70 as I felt we had more of the ball in the first half.
