Pool signings you thought would turn out better?

Davies was the main one. Thought we'd signed at least 15 goals guaranteed. We hadn't. We'd signed a fat bloke.

More recently I thought Ethan Robson was the most promising of that initial flurry of Critch signings which included Yates, Marv, CJ etc. Not given up on him yet but I thought he'd be a first team regular.
Robson could well become a first team regular. Apparently he has been playing very well this season…

That Matthews. He was a crock when we signed him and we paid over the odds. He was a bloody has-been. Spent the war years being an RAF fitness instructor then back to Stoke. I bet they loved it when we came in for him. Total waste of money.

Andy Reid
I think you mean Andy Fat ** Reid. Tubby unfit wanker with us that did nothing, came back with Forest the next season or one after that and looked fit, interested and ran the game for them.
That’s the last time I vented at a player when he came over in front of the south to take a corner, got a bit of stick and gestures while smirking, made me see red.

Bobby Tynan came with high expectations and looked a classy player but his career was cut short by injury.

Apostolos Vellios was a huge disappointment I thought he would tear the league up.He had scored off the bench a couple of times for Everton aswell so we had all seen glimpses. No idea how that didnt work out.

A good one. There seems to be a lot of players that came in in the Ince/Ferguson eras that I had completely forgotten about

I'll add Keith Walwyn. Prolific, until he came to us. A few Alan Ball signings also spring to mind. Someone already mentioned Willie Morgan. Ted McDougall as well.

Sheedy for certain. Richardson and Ablett weren't that great but way ahead of KS. Who was a great player in his day for Everton.

Also Junior Bent. Remember thinking back to what he did to Liverpool when Bristol City beat them, and being really excited about him coming. Although to take the other side, he got played at centre forward a fair few times due to needs must. Certainly wasn't a target man!

Another one- Hameuh Bouazza

Started very well in 09/10 season and popped up every now and then but eventually just disappeared

Walwyn & Cunningham, although I thought TC had some talent, for a strikeforce who were going to terrorise Div3,it all went rather mediocre.

Who was the lad Alan Ball played when he was about 4 years old? Must still be our youngest player??
Eamon Collins or something or possibly nothing like that name, was going to be the next Pele apparently, did he ever play again? For anyone?

This thread is as good or bad as the one about those who turned out better.
Loads of them for both threads.

He followed Ball to Southampton,Portsmouth and Exeter.

Alan Groves was great for Oldham and ran us ragged.
Disappointed when he came to Pool.
Died of heart attack at 32.

Eamon Collins played at Colchester when they were in the Conference.
The next George Best was the Gazette headlines.

Surprised I got the name right! Just checked his wiki he played for loads of clubs all managed by Alan Ball, wonder what he had on Bally!?!!
