Places to go before a game

Morning all, taking my wife for her first proper experience of a football day/game. Travelling from Cumbria so going to be arriving early on the train to sample some of the pubs before a game. Where & which ones are the best to go to pre-match for some good atmosphere? Been a while since I have been (COVID, and normally drive the past few). I was a regular for the last times in the championship & prem. and it was always the Weatherspoons to start, then Excelsior, Waterloo.
Thanks in advance

In town, try The Brew Room (formerly the Stanley Arms, aka the Blue Room). It does its own real ales and a good selection of regionals. It also does good German lagers.
Down south, away from the sea, there are The Saddle and the No. 10 (micro-pub) on Whitegate Drive.
Then, of course, there is the new Armfield Club on Bloomfield Rd.

Plenty of decent pubs around town depends what your wife wants I just want a cheap pint of Lager and couldn't give two hoots about Real Ale then it's a short walk to the ground.
Washington,The Brew Room,Black Pug,Sports Bar(Old Gillespies),Hogarths all decent Ma Kelly's(Old Station) if you want some entertainment(crap😜) then you've the fun pubs on the front.

What you after then posters can give you advice forget the Saddle and No 10 to far away from the Station.

Cheers for the info. guys! Basically just after a bit of footy atmosphere before the game. Not really into real ales tbh. I have heard a bit about the Armfield Club and quite fancy there, is it members only? If so, can you sign up on the day?

Honestly don't think you will beat armfield from what I've read on here, twitter (not been yet or had chance to join) and seen on Lee Charles videos. Sure people on here will confirm the members situation but if not email info@thearmfieldclub.co.uk to confirm anything.

Arrive by train, (North Station) first stop, Fish butty at Yorkshire Fisheries, start slowly and continue along Topping Street to the Tap and Cask a small but quietish bar with a great selection of Beers and Lagers. Turn left onto Church Street, The Brew Room (the birthplace of BFC) then two alternatives, 1. a taxi to the No10 on Whitegate Drive, small but BFC through and through, and the Saddle if you wish. 2. Taxi to the Armfield Club, which will be packed to the gunnels with loads of football atmosphere. It will introduce your wife slowly to a football day out rather than going straight to the great football atmosphere in the Armfield Club, which may be too much for a newbie.

I’d expect a fair few Fulham in town. Good that you’re letting the train take the strain, parking in town is expensive.
The No,5 cafe on St. John’s Square is good for brekkie/lunch or it’s “sister” cafe on Birley St.
The best pubs have been covered for you.
Post match? Fish and chips before you return? All to one’s taste! Harrowside for me.

Not just for members(yet)on matchday but it gets bloody busy prefer the Bloomfield pub up the road myself.

Good post. We walk to the ground from The Saddle. Bit of a walk but no big deal.
