Heading to the Gold Coast for the Fulham & Huddersfield double header in September. Mrs TMS wants to combine with a short break so looking for a nice country house hotel within striking distance. Have stayed at the Cartford Inn but looking for something similar within an hours drive or so of Bloomfield Road. Have the good citizens of AVFTT got any local recommendations please?

Ribchester is about 45 minutes away and this place has accommodation and great food also.
Good location for the Ribble valley and trough of Bowland if your wife is looking for something a bit more restful than Blackpool.

Just over an hour away
Really? i live and work a stones throw from Shrigley Hall and stayed there on my wedding night and thought it was poor bar the grounds its in.

The Pheasant Inn at Casterton near Kirby Lonsdale. Decent food, great base for walking and a golf course nearby. Not far to the motorway and less than an hour from Blackpool

Stayed at the

Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel And Spa

At Clayton-le-Moors once, not far off M65 for a Wedding couple of years back and very nice it was too, lovely characterful building and beautiful grounds and give or take bang on an hour from Blackpool.

As it happened Arsenal were staying there before playing Blackburn and got to ride in a lift with the giant - but lean - Arsene Wenger - thrills eh! All the players were in having breakfast and to a man almost they mirrored their manager in build and stature, I felt like a dwarf even at being 6ft tall!

Not sure about just over an hour away🤔 especially at weekends but nice area and Lyme Park close by for some exercise and countryside.
Not stayed there other than for an Office Xmas party many years ago but seems to have a good reputation.
There is also Mottram Hall not far away from there either with Alderley Edge close by ( again only stayed there for an Office Xmas Party) for walking....and trying to spot all those Premier League players😉.
Both are relatively close to Style Country Park with Quarry Bank Mill ( and Apprentice House) worth a visit. .( National Trust Property) and there are some good but not too difficult paths for walking.
Suspect neither will be cheap but they sometimes appear on Secret Escapes( which you may want to look up if not already on the internet for ideas).

Hazi obviously drives faster than me😉 but I would say it’s probably just short of 70 miles from either of these hotels to Bloomfield Road( it’s exactly 60 from my house😉 via the M60,M61,etc)

Look at a site James's places a group of hotels run by Bowland brewery group all good standard pub/hotels with good food and beer all within 60/90 mins drive 🍻

Hazi...I am sure on a “very good day” that might be possible but take it from me you would do amazingly well to do that time( been in Cheadle Hulme since 1977 ) and my best time( always on the return journey is 60 minutes for 60 miles) but believe me ( especially during the illuminations or pouring rain) I have taken nearly three hours and many any a time at least 90 + minutes.

it is why I always set off as early as I can.

However if you are taking things easy this part of our wonderful country is definitely worth visiting😉
