Oliver Norburn (bumped and updated)

According to Scrafton, Peterborough have confirmed we were going to pay £800,000 for him this coming summer but due to an ACL injury that is now off. Am I missing something here, last summer Norburn joined Peterborough from Shrewsbury for a reported £350,000. We needed a midfielder last summer but he wasn’t one of the names being bandied about, yet in January we are interested enough to pay twice what they paid for him. Did he suddenly double his value in 5 months, or are the recruitment team playing silly buggers. Seems a very strange way to conduct business for a team on a limited budget.

Bowler will leave.
Not for as much as we'd hoped as the two televised matches won't have done him any good.
However, it'll be money in the pot for transfers.
We desperately need a goalscorer who can get one in three, two in five and a ball playing midfielder who can get forward.
Defensively we're OK, it's our attack that has misfired this season.

You mean a bit like us getting Bowler on a free and now we have turned down bids worth millions. This is football, it happens!
Bowler was 22 and not played in Evertons first team. Norburn is 29 and a first team regular, completely different circumstances.

Behave every single game is televised a buying club can get recordings of all Bowlers performances no problems not just because a load of armchair Sky fans who have seen a couple of average appearances.

I don’t think the forward line has misfired, just that we’ve not created enough. I can’t recall many howlers that cost us points.

On Norburn, I'm glad we've learned not to buy injured players, even on the cheap.

It seems likely that Bowler will go, but probably not for the millions that's been taken about.

I also expect that Brannagan's loyalty to Oxford will have run out, and he'll then be just as loyal to us. 😅

Though I can recall many times we've not had that cutting edge/killer instinct to convert chances in the box into goals
We’ve had some shocking misses/ball ups this season. Sadly Jerry is the worst for this as every time he’s in the box now he doesn’t appear to know how to shoot anymore.

If people actually read the story, they'll see that's not what Barry Fry said. He had a gentleman's agreement with Norburn to let him leave if we offered what we offered in January. No deal in place with Blackpool or guarantee that we'd go back in for him. Moot point now, however.

Quote “ Darragh Macanthony confirmed an £800,000 bid had benn agreed with an unnamed club”. That club he has since confirmed was Blackpool, can’t get much clearer than that. I suggest you read the article once, twice, possibly even three times to make sure you understand.

Read the quotes from Barry Fry

A guy who didn’t say anything about Blackpool! Fry quotes are clear. He doesn’t say a deal was done … just a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the player. People reading way too much into this.
So are Macanthony’s “ an £800,000 fee was agreed” can’t get much clearer than that either. I would suggest the chairman and his manager start reading from the same page.

Suspect Macanthony is attempting to bolster his insurance payout … he’s rather known for exaggeration

As if we would have paid that for such an old player who will be back in League One soon.

Peterborough are using this player's injury as a way of pleading poverty ahead of a summer re-build. It won't wash because everyone knows they have stacks of cash swimming around from Dembele's transfer.

12 months on ...

Posh director of football Barry Fry has revealed Blackpool, Bolton Wanderersand Wigan Athletic have all enquired about Norburn, but none have made a bid. Posh will expect a fee for a player they signed from Shrewsbury Town for around £350k in August 2021.

Wigan don't pay wages never mind a transfer fee what a joke
Wigan are on a transfer embargo so they can’t sign anyone for a fee. Only loans and out of contract players. They’ve been told they can only have 23 players and they have 19 already co tracked so can only sign 2. Players having a meeting this week to discuss giving the club 14 days notice to rip up their contracts due to the situation at Wigan. Can’t blame them really.

This for me would be a marquee signing.

The Seasiders, who werre relegated into League One at the end of last seasons, as well as Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic have made enquiries about Norburn according to Posh director of football Barry Fry.

And it’s understood Pool remain in the running even though they took 23 year-old Albie Morgan from League One rivals Charlton Athletic yesterday. Morgan was out of contract at the Valley.

A 30 y/o coming back from a year out with a serious knee injury? There's a reason Peterborough want to sell him.

Obviously knows what he is talking about if he things Bolton were relegated with us.

Barry fry would sell anyone to anyone if he could. I really like the guys passion etc but he is as shifty a salesman as they come and I’d need to be very sure of everything if I were dealing with him. I wouldn’t go anywhere near a player out for a year with a knee prob but suspect we are looking. G!

With Stewart gone we need someone to keep the treatment room busy.😁

We don't want to be signing another crocked player, be disappointed if we sign him.
What makes you think he's crocked?

He's played more than Kevin Stewart has last season, with a knee injury than KS has in 3 years.

He had one horrific knee injury which kept him out for around 10 months and then he started every game Peterborough played for the last 17 games of the season helping them into the play offs?
