This is a brilliant photo, getting so much football talent all in their service uniforms at the same time. I wonder where it was taken? I know the Blackpool area was used for training, one of the reasons some played for Blackpool
And England.played for fleetwood non league
Don't think so mate, Derby was towards the end of the season and I doubt very much the grass would have looked like that. It's got to be early season. Hull was in August the other possible could be Bolton in September but as was said earlier the amber socks suggest Hull though I'm not 100% either way.I'm sure I once read that this game was vs Derby County.
It's 100% v Hull City . I was at the game and also remember the photo being published in the days after the match . I would however struggle to remember who we played at the start of last season thoughDon't think so mate, Derby was towards the end of the season and I doubt very much the grass would have looked like that. Second one, robbed. The only time I went to the Baseball ground.Just found this on YouTube, looks like you're both right looking at the kit in the video compared to the photo.
Also found another from the 70's, FA Cup 3rd Round Replay away at Derby County in 1977.
What was on the corner where the Esso garage is now? Can’t remember for the life of me!
I went to the replay. It was supposed to be played on an earlier date but a late call off due to fog did not go down well with me and the others on the supporters coach on the M6 at the time. We were unlucky in that game but Leighton James was the difference for Derby. Fair play to the Derby fans the Baseball Ground was rocking that night they reallyHow bad did our normally capable defence look that night? All 3 goals could've been prevented. I went to the first match at BR, which was also on MotD and it was a really drab game with only about 2 mins of highlights shown.
I used to enjoy watching that Blackpool side, but that wasn't one of their finest matchesJust found this on YouTube, looks like you're both right looking at the kit in the video compared to the photo.

We had the best lawn mower and pitch in the world then !I'm sure I once read that this game was vs Derby County.

Agree it's the Scratchers, at the corner with the Kop, but I've never seen that before. Don't appear to have any glass in them, just holes in the roof, like panels are missing, but they're very regularly spaced. Is that the Scratchers? I don't remember Skylights in the roof, maybe @Wizaard will remember.
The scratchers was rebuilt/fully roofed in the close season of 1953 or 1954, which is roughly when this picture looks to be from. Maybe they just hadn't finished the work in time for the new season!Agree it's the Scratchers, at the corner with the Kop, but I've never seen that before. My wife grew up knowing the Ball family in Farnworth and his mum (Violet) thought she was the 'bees knees' and not that well liked because of it. They were just like anybody else really.A young Alan Ball having a Brew with his Mum.
Bally had supreme confidence in his ability. I remember him taking the ball around the Leeds goalie then stopping the ball on the goaline and sitting on it. As the Leeds defenders rushed backed desperately he waited till the last moment then got his arse off the ball and back heeled it in.️My wife grew up knowing the Ball family in Farnworth and his mum (Violet) thought she was the 'bees knees' and not that well liked because of it. I didn't think the Sheds were covered to the corner then? The kit suggests pre 56.Is that the Scratchers? I don't remember Skylights in the roof, maybe @Wizaard will remember.
Was talking to an old chap the other day, been down here for over thirty years, still had his scouse accent, when I told him I was from Blackpool the first reaction was ‘ god bless you for giving us Bally’ best player we ever had.A young Alan Ball having a Brew with his Mum.
When was the photo taken?
When was the photo taken?
Pre 1960 as the Kop has no roof in the pic. When was the photo taken?
Just noticed there's no Rigby Road rugby ground. When was that built? Also that the land is being used for parking. Nothing changes.Roof going on the Kop. 1958? Nice line up of locos on Bloomfield shed.
