Old Nightclubs

I sold a package online and via hotels around 2005 for £6.00 which gave entry to the Waterfront on Friday night and the Palace on Saturday night. Cost me £3.00. One Saturday night I got a call from the palace head doorman telling me they had 900 through the door with my passes. Heady days indeed. One of my better ideas. I couldn’t name a nightclub now 😂

Remember an evening in the Gynn then rolling over to Savoy that at the time had a nice wine bar on the end that seemed to stay open beyond 11pm - the closing time in those days. I'd somehow got matey with the manager who's mate was Stan MacEwen - so recall having a great beer or two with them. We were 4th tier then - desperate -days, Nobby's head, Terry Pashley's shooting - cows arse & a banjo, young Hesford in goal - when he wasn't painting the Mariners ... Stan was better than that.
Sullivans was the wine bar at the Savoy. Happy days.

Ah. Man Fridays. Many a happy Thursday and Saturday night in there.
Met the ex Mrs on a Thursday night in there after a college night class. Had to rescue my books & notes from behind the bar at the Crown after forgetting them earlier, much relieved the day after.

What was the name of the club / venue out cleveleys way, off a roundabout from the road that went round the back of cleveleys. Can't even remember the name of the road.

Love threads like this brings back loads of memories, didn’t realize how good the nightlife was in the 80s. Best days / nights on the Fylde Riviera nothing could beat it.

illawalla. 👍

Used to walk down from the Bay Horse pub just before closing time as queues to get in were massive back then.

Big posh houses on the land today, right next door to Andy Pilley’s pad. 😮

The Queens /Showboat

Early 70's Blackpool had some cracking night clubs as a out of town young un was introduced to the original 007 which in now under the foundations of the Hounds Hill shopping centre Brian London always kept control of his customers . The Adam & Eve started the cheap drinks night on a Tuesday at closing time free tickets handed out to the ladies for the following week. Trader Jacks at the Imperial Hotel always felt like a pick up joint for the older punters ( I was 19) . The Illawalla opened in Thornton 1977 meant no more expensive taxis to Blackpool originally a gents club it soon became a disco with entertainment provided by the crazy Steve Edwards

The Village on Central drive !
I worked there collecting glasses for a few months and cloakroom attendent
One night Edwin Starr played a gig while I was there, he got changed amongst the coats! Also Modern Romance were on as well just the singer and some backing tapes

Does anyone remember the club / disco on Clifton St Lytham mid seventies …… trying to rack my brain to remember the name . Also a couple of others I recall ….. I think was called Elite on Victoria St and the DJ was non other than Afroman and another we went to was the occasional Sunday Charity nite at a club in Kirkham …. Again can’t remember the name but 40 odds years later my memory if fading 🥴
I think we grew up in the best time ever during late 70’s , 80s and early 90’s

In the Mood was the one in Lytham. Wasnt the Kirkham one Charlie Max or summat?

What was the name of the gay club below Rumours.
That was an eye opener for many!

Adam and Eve on Tuesday( half price drinks) was the place to pull the good looking women.

Mecca Ballroom. A huge dancefloor and the Highland Room. Soul music. Sands Where I met my wife in 1981. Norbreck Nite Spot. Two pounds and they usually had a live act. saw Slade Tourists Gary yes him. but what a live act. Annie Lennox signed my beermat after. Imperial Hotel. Wasnt a nite club but saw Joy Division there . late 1979. central pier. the night club there.

Started my underage drinking in Kings, Cleveleys. Local was Broadway Fleetwood. Sunday and Wednesdays disco nights. New Anchor (Anchorsolme) was popular. Used to jump on my 50cc and fly down prom from the wood. Get pissed and bag of chips all for a fiver! Springs Tuesday (nurses) Durban cleveleys (grab a granny) Thursday, brannigans and Sands or Additions Saturday or Planters/Illawalla if staying local. Charity night Blackpool (Sundays). Then Acid came in and started going to The Village on Mondays. Then Shaboo at weekends, Hacienda/Conspiracy, Manchester. How the hell I held down a job back then is beyond me!!! Now happy just staying in with family supping Aldi German Pils 😂😂

There was In the Mood but that was 80’s I think.

I’m sure I’ve posted this before, Cleveleys was THE place in the late 50’s/60’s. The Dolphin bar, live acts every nigh, with the Queens disco until 2am was packed and the Vic had live bands every night with the disco upstairs. Sam Smiths so the beer was crap, but the vibe was fantastic. Then it was off to either the Sporting club on dock street or the Castle casino until dawn, then a greasy spoon at south shore, can’t remember the name.

Whilst not that old I miss Club Sanuk, Che Bar and also The Flagship.

The Flagship used to be fantastic on a summer Saturday afternoon. Packed out 3pm as if it was a 3am nightclub.

Unreal vibe and gutted it never reopened after Covid.

Anyone know why?

In the middle 60’s Brian Rossi and the Wheels used to play at the Queens disco and the band contained a little known Van Morrison

Not in your lots neck of the woods but in my late teens we used to head from Chipping to ce la vie in Blackburn. Down the steps to a subterranean dive, walls painted black and dripping with sweat, dance floor in a pit about 4m by 4m with 4 speakers in each corner, playing things like Sympathy for the Devil - loved it!

Within six months it had become the ‘go to place’ for people who were into music not being played in the charts – and was responsible for the first ever acid house nights in Blackburn

That would be Dixieland on Central Pier.
Got busy at weekends in there with young tourists.

Did a Stag do once - the Sandcastle followed by Sands - Best Man had his locker broken in to and all his clothes stolen and so ended up with a combo of left behind clothes from the Sandcastle lost property department and some shit shoes from a pound shop on the Prom!

Was the pier also called Oz at one point? I know I went a couple of times but was that pissed I couldn't remember my own name, let alone the building's.

Sorry but you’re wrong - Morrison was hired by Brian Rossi and the Golden Eagles, later known as the Wheels and he was hired as a blues singer.
Then Brian Rossi and the Eagles never played at Queens at least when I went. The Wheels with Brian as lead singer never had Sorryson with them and I went every week
In fact Rossi,s version of Gloria was far superior to the man who wrote it.
