O/T - Smart Watches

So, now it's 3 months out of warranty my Smart Watch is playing up and as Fossil no longer make them I'm looking for an alternative brand. I pretty much never get down to three but I'm not sure which one to go for. I'm not particularly interested in the fitness tracking apps, but rather interested in features like GPS, Google pay, Spotify, and things like alarms and timers. Any recommendations and reasons for those recommendations would be appreciated or you can just vote for the brand you think would be best for me, Thanks

Go to BBC Sounds and look up radio 4s Best thing since sliced bread. A few weeks ago they did all about Smart watches pros and cons how accurate they were and the difference between cheap and expensive ones.

I've got a Galaxy Watch 6 and that's good. Does all the app stuff that you want. It is quite a small face though compared to others so depending on your eyesight it might not be the best option for reading messages, emails etc. Also, it does need charging daily - I do mine for about 30/45 mins every morning and that will last me a full day.

Got to be honest I'm leaning towards that but I'm also thinking that a Google Pixel Watch might integrate better with my Google Pixel 6 phone which I'll be replacing with a Pixel 7 or 8 when I renew my contract with Three later this year

Huawei for me purely for battery life . Samsung need charging almost daily if using for sync with phone for messaging/emails. No idea on apple.
Yeah, I've no idea (or interest) in Apple as I've always considered Apple devices to be the tech equivalent of jewel encrusted butt plugs.

The Huawei looks good but I know the previous model which I looked at when I bought my fossil smartwatch didn't have Google pay on it as it lacked NFC. I've not been able to find anything online to indicate whether the latest model has NFC and Google pay or not

I've had a Samsung Frontier watch for ages now, it does all I need (especially linking to my Libre 2 cgm via xDrip app) Battery life is still 3 days +. It runs the Samsung Tizen software, which they really should have stuck with as it is far better power wise than either Apple or Google watch software.
Also have a Amazfit Falcon, which is a really nice watch with amazing battery life, just lacks my cgm at the moment but Amazfit do some really good watches for decent prices.

I am a Garmin fan, mainly for the GPS map, Still tracks activities and keeps an eye on basic health stuff, and can use for payment and music. I think the new ones allows phone calls too. Mine is a 6, and only gets recharged about every 14 days, unless you use mapping a lot.

The best watches in my opinion

About 20 years ago I bought a Breitling, I'd had it about 14 months when something went wrog with it.
I took it back to the shop, in Bedford, They sent it to Switzerland,
After a time it came back. They couldn't fix it (they said).
I took it back to the shop where I bought it, eventually they offered me about £20 more than I paid for it.
I accepted.
In another shop I bought a Seiko Solar watch. I've had it for about 14/15 years now.
Brilliant time keeper and no problems with it.

I love my Breitling

So, in the end I'm having it down to the Google pixel watch 2 and the Samsung Galaxy watch 6. I was tempting by Google as I thought it might offer more compatibility with my Google phone. But after researching them both extensively, I couldn't see any extra features the Google would give me to justify the extra £100 cost So I purchase the Samsung Galaxy watch 6 and so far I'm quite happy with it

I’ve got a really smart watch, it doesn’t need batteries. Just charges of movement.
I heard Farage overcharged his, what a wanker 😬

* I love my Apple Watch.
Links up beautifully to my Apple iPhone.
Apple lead, where others follow. You get what you pay for. 😁

* lights touchpaper and stands back

I took my water resistant Apple Watch into the swimming pool with me on holiday (just forgot I was wearing it) and it promptly expired.

After the initial shock I found it quite liberating tbh, not being chained to the internet and having my day constantly interrupted with trivia I didn’t really need to know about. We don’t realise how addicted we become to them. Try not wearing one for a week and see what I mean.

Absolutely no intention of replacing it.

I have a cheap smartwatch as I only want to read messages. I don't want to answer phone calls nor do I need GPS as I won't be getting dropped in the Amazon jungle any time soon.

I agree with you. There really isn't any need for a smartwatch when 99.9% of us carry a smart phone in our pockets with it. We are all indeed unnecessarily tethered to the internet.

Bit late to the convo personally but just bought the galaxy watch 6 classic myself a couple of weeks ago, 1st smart watch I've had as never been interested in them (don't really know why I bought it!) But haven't had it off my wrist since, absolutely love it. Got a Tag Carrera which I haven't worn since! Love the changeable straps too. Battery life is a definite downside but having a Samsung phone as well I'm quite used to that. Once a day with heavy use, every other day if used as just a 'watch'.
