O LED TV's

Thinking of getting an OLED tv for front room. Anyone got one? Currys showroom and the like not being open so unable to actually see for myself since last went there a few years back. As they are a fair bit dearer than the bog standards is the quality that much better and worth paying the extra for?
Anyone recommend any specific models or places to get one? Looking at a 48-55 inch one.
Cheers

Only worth it if you watch everything on ultra HD, of which there are only a handful of channels.

Recently changed my TV for a 50” smart TV by Phillips, very good and cheap from Argos, around £300. I wouldn’t pay anymore for what has now become a consumable item that you’re lucky to get 3yrs out of.

Try Reliant, I don't know if they are open but they have a new showroom on Mythop Lane.
Have look at their website.

i have 55 inch samsung o led tv awesome picture and viewing angle is much superior to my former hd lg tv
got mine from reliant tv they price match too and a local company

Bought one of the Samsung QLed TVs in the first lockdown its way better than my Panasonic, what is really good is the upscaling which makes lower Res pictures look much better.

My Sony is 9 years old and is still fine. I did pay £800 for it so it should last.

I've never had a TV for 3 years or less. You must do something to them😆

20s - I've got a 55" LG OLED and the picture is excellent, and the Smart TV covers pretty much all of the streaming channels such as Prime and Netflix. I have it hooked up to a Sony 4k bluray player to watch films - online streaming 4k films and tv is pretty good (if you have decent speed internet) but playing 4k discs gives best quality for film, at least so I find.

However I'd echo what Cruzzer says above, that going OLED is really still only worth the extra cost if you will find yourself watching lots on the UHD channels available or 4k content on Netflix/Prime etc, or if you have a collection of UHD/4k films that you watch. I do both but the second, watching films, is why I really went OLED and for that it is amazing. I wouldn't really bother with the extra cost of the OLED if I didn't do that though.

In terms of specific models, I can recommend the LG OLEDs for sure. My current model is an LGOLED55CX that I got mid last year - I also had an earlier LG OLED but gave that to my folks to replace their old TV that went bang - so I could treat myself to a new toy 😀 Easy to use, great picture quality.

A good review of the TV I have is here LG review (https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/lg-oled55cx)

I have heard QLed is cheaper than Oled and just as good? Also that you don''t get the risk of screen burnout on Qleds

Haven’t got one but I’ve bought my last two TV’s from Richer Sounds. Great advice and they’ll sell you what you need, rather than something you don’t. I’m sure they’ll have online chat 👍

Got my Samsung QLED from Richer Sounds also got my record deck etc from them also. They are excellent and always have good deals on. Will always use them now. The Samsung QLED is very good.

I replaced my kitchen/ den Panasonic 37" led that I bought 10yrs ago for £900 with a toshiba 65" smart TV for £460. Well impressed and even the rf2 connection from sky i expect picture due to size would be naff is better than Panasonic.

Steam HD football from firestick on it and great picture and is perfect for me. (Don't really watch films) Others I guess might think picture isn't as sharp etc and would expect with price. but unbelievable for price I paid and perfect for me.. well happy.

Cruzzer, that surprises me, I got a 50" Samsung Smart TV 10 years ago from Argos, it cost me £600 and we've never had one single problem with it. Back in the day our TV engineer was being called out on a near monthly basis to fix the damned old TV's.

I bought 1 55" Samsung 4k in April, to replace a LG 42" that had gotten broken. The 4k picture was excellent, but the upscaling from my Sky Q box was absolutely awful, so you couldn't watch BBC1 North West without a fuzzy border on the top and bottom. Sent it back and got a new LG, not their cheapest but round about 450, and it's absolutely fantastic as an all-round tv.

Quick tip, if you have three or more HDMI slots, at least one won't support 4k, it took me two years to realise why the 4k was the same as the HD.

You need to look at the colour of the HDMI slot, for 4k you need the HDMI 2.0 or newer version.

Ambilight is pretty great when hung on a light coloured wall.

I have a superb 65" LG Oled. Slightly curved screen. Cost a fortune new but it has everything. I am sure I dont use half of its capabilities.
I fully agree with the other posters in that the tvs capabilities are more often than not wasted due to the broadcast qualities.
Also I would suggest you check what apps are available on the smart tv. LG for instance were not friends with the Itv hub people and you cannot get it on my smart tv. I recently bought an older Samsung smart tv and following an upgrade I cannot get BBC Iplayer and other popular apps. For the cost of the tvs the smart functions / wi fi abilities are often shocking. Try watching Ifollow on your smart tvs internet hub. Shocking and constantly buffering, yet the Tv was in excess of £3000. Yet its fine on a fifty pound firestick.

55 inch LG Oled with a sonus beam, plug in LED strips of Amazon for 15 quid. You get a tangerine glow with the dulcet tones of the chizmeister guiding the mighty to victory 267A101F-A391-43AC-ADD4-4A7FE58B58C8.jpeg

I have a 55 inch LG OLED from Richer Sounds which was bought to replace my aging Pansonic plasma . They are a superb tv with great picture and facilties. I don't understand why people are worried about screen burn as they go into screen saver mode if paused for any length of time.

blacks are better on oleds than qleds, oleds are much superior in my opinion
Agreed.

That is because OLED is the latest technology. Crappy brands such as Hisense (Nonsense) and SONIQ are pushing the QLED mantra to try to stay competitive, although QLED is just basically LCD which is old tech.

FYI technology wise IMHO, Samsung are the front liners in actual screen technology. But be mindful that when other companies install Samsung screens into their TVs, it all depends on the built in components which can be shipped from less superior manufacturers.

Another point is that in Australia, ALDIS sell BAUHN TVs. Unfortunately, those TVs are made wholly in China, then they put a BAUHN sticker on the front to give the impression they are German made TVs.
