I grew up in that there Preston and in all fairness and despite the rivalry, Preston folk are in most walks of life generally alright - they're a friendly, honest, decent bunch.
However, I was always perplexed at their strange attachment to a predictable, monochrome football club known simply as "Lillywhites." I was baffled when they would regularly ask each other whether they were going "on" Deepdale at the weekend. Stranger still was a yearly festival involving the wearing of funny headgear and calling each other "gentry." But even these strange observances were eclipsed by a very rare, voodoo-esque ritual procession known as "raising the coffin", and an even rarer mass gathering at something called a "flag market" (which despite it's name never appeared to sell any flags...)
Obviously like any good missionary engaged in a difficult field, out of real concern for these good folks I tried to help them see the (Tangerine) light, but sadly my efforts were usually (always, in fact) in vain.
