And you think Lewis is living in Monaco just for tax reasons as do many other Formula one drivers and not for lifestyle?
Hamilton was in the top 5000 of tax payers in the UK last year he just doesn't pay it on he earnings which he considers of money earnt abroad.

You can live in Monaco but still pay UK tax on your personal earnings He doesn’t so I’d exclude him from consideration

Tbh, I would scrap the Honours system completely. It seems to depend so much on who is "flavour of the month" in any particular year and in any area of life there always appear to be some glaring omissions together with some names that don't appear to deserve it. It just promotes divisiveness within our society, for no good reason that I can think of.
 
Awarding knighthoods to sports stars while they are still competing is just wrong. Cringeworthy. At least Andy Murray has the decency to be a bit embarrassed by it.
Tax dodgers should also definitely be barred from consideration. So should media whores who hire expensive lawyers to get them off when caught committing traffic offences.
 
Nothing against Hamilton, he's a multiple world champion so I see why. My issue is that F1 is just a bit of a joke and whoever has the best cars will win, a la Mercedes and that lad who stood in for hamilton, who would have won apart from Mercedes making sure he didn't so as to try and fool the World.

I'm afraid, for me, F! is the dullest sport in the world to watch.

Very true but l believe he got knighted because he won SPOTY and his support for BLM.
 
There will always be debates about how deserving are those who are or aren`t given a gong but personally I am not remotely envious or resentful and why scrap the system and deny many deserving recipients because there may be a few less deserving recipients.Throwing out the baby with the bathwater comes to mind.

I am sure that for many who deservedly receive such awards it will be one of the highlights of their lives.Why spoil it for them?

Lots of people should have been before Hamilton.
People who live here pay taxes, don’t have a £250 million fortune and don’t cry he’s from a working class family who had nothing.
He deserved his SPOTY award i’ll grant him that because of his achievement this year and no one else had a chance due to Covid but this? Nope it’s all Boris’s fault.

Quite ironic that they announced the awards around the same time as last year.

What has BLM got to do with being honoured for 7 World Championships........................difficult to argue against, even for non-F1 folk like myself. Trying to bait people are ya, Mex?
