Mystery 4/5 players

Who exactly are these 4/5 players that will make us better come December 10th?

Fiorini - worlds longest hamstring recovery. Started off showing promise but quickly drifted in and out of games before his injury
Beesley - worlds longest broken toe recovery - If we're counting on him to score the goals to keep us up we're in deep deep trouble.
Thorniley - will make us better but has been an integral part of a defence thats shipped goals in all season.
Husband - hardly kicked a ball this season, rushed back.

Stewart, Gabriel and Keshi probably all missing until Jan/Feb at the earliest

I'm struggling to see what the major difference is going to be when we kick off against Birmingham City in 4 weeks time?

Anybody else got a clue?

As much as we’ve had a crazy amount of injuries Appletons always had a pretty strong (surprisingly strong at times) first XI available to him. Plenty of those players were his players too. It’s only really at RB where we’ve been desperately short.

I think you are missing that old commodity of wishful thinking, which a few on this board are clinging on to lately. Sounds like come Dec/Jan all players will be back, energy costs will be reduced, war in Ukraine over and the sun will be shining over the meadow for ever and ever….

Agreed. It wasn't that long ago that the 'front 6' was considered our strongest. Lavery, Yates and Madine up top and Dougall, Patino and Carey in the middle. Connolly has proved himself to be a more than capable right back and Marv is/was a mainstay and is now Captain. Williams and Thompson both brought in by Appleton and there you have our 11.

Defensively Jud and Hubby are improvements but the rest are first team regulars.

Oh good, and here was me thinking the future may be bleak.🤣

It's all about having a squad if you've only 14 fit(cough) players and end up putting your youth on the bench your goosed.
You always need backup.

All the players mentioned will of course help, no doubt about that.

Above and beyond them, the break will help Madine rest and recover, Patino and a couple of others get over the illness bug.

But critically we won’t have a Right Back till the Sunderland game at the earliest. 4 games after the break. And that’s if Lyon’s is ready to go immediately. (You’d hope the club get him in now to train with us.)
We all brought this up in the summer, and Sadlers clap back at the fans about not having a right back was one of the only times I thought hmm yeh that isn’t a great look or idea. But it’s really a major problem in the squad.

One. It weakens the defensive line having Connolly or Ward in there, both try their bollocks off but they’re not full backs.

Two. With Connolly at right back the only person in the squad who can anchor the whole system Appleton wants to play is stuck ferreting around down a channel.

This isn’t going to be remedied straight after the break and could bring the whole thing crashing down. This aspect of summer was really poor recruitment wise.

Tbh it'll certainly help, as flogging the same 11 sat tues was just wearing the good players we had down.

Bridcutt too hopefully, who did make a difference.

All in all not exactly like we have star players out, but it will definitely help.
