Mick McCarthy

Christ this better be good. Very underwhelming, part of me wants Appleton back. Surely much better names out there, and the fact it’s til the end of the season screams cheap and no money.

Concerned
Does it bollocks!!

To come in short term He'll be on a healthy bonus to keep us up......that screams stay in the division regardless of cost then re evaluate the situation........absolutely awful post

Deal is done. We’re not considering anyone. The choice is made
Are you really still making stuff up like you're in the board room.
I remember when you did this under your last Username - CalderwoodCritchelyWon't - and pretty much with 100% reliability you were wrong.
But fair play to you, purely on guesses with information thats out there you've actually had some people fool'd you're ITK.

Thinking if not announced shortly there is a stumbling block. Big Mick will want to be on the training ground today if he’s coming, he’s not a sit in the stands and watch the first game sort of bloke

I quite like Mick McCarthy as a football character. He has more wins than defeats in all his managerial appointments (except for his short term in Cyprus), and if he can win more than he loses here we might just stay up hopefully.
Good luck to him (and us!).

PS I think we know it isn’t going to be pretty though!
Just don't wear a baseball cap to the game......you won't see much !!

Supposedly due in Blackpool this afternoon with his entourage. You'd think if he's making the effort to travel here then everything would have been agreed previously over the phone / zoom call.

Yet, the club will still keep paying the wages to the people who 'strategise' despite the strategy being in the bin and the bin being on fire and everyone running round shouting 'panic, panic, panic'
Exactly this. Netflix will be in touch soon.

Wish they'd hurry up and announce it so I can find out how 'whelmed' everybody is.
We're in that lull period now after the initial surge where it starts to sound like the target has met with Big Ben in the Brannagan's Pond suite and then decided against it

They're just squeezing him into the box for the promo video.

Negotiations taking place with MM this afternoon according to someone on twitter so not a done deal if true? Keeping an open mind.

He may only be until the end of the season at which point we can re-evaluate. I wouldn't be happy with him long term, but there's only a limited number of managers with plenty of championship experience we could get imo, because most will be beyond our budget or currently employed.
Just to be clear, I don't love the appointment, I just think it makes some sense. I get why the club would do it in our position, whereas the MA appointment was bizarre and totally avoidable.
I agree with all of that? The only thing I'd add is that I don't think he sees it as long-lerm either. And that's another reason why it is a great fit for both parties.

But things may develop over time. If he keeps us up playing a more direct, but more entertaining style, than the turgid stuff we have been experiencing recently, then many of us would want him to stay on next season.

From his perspective, he may just love the craziness of it all with us and the atmosphere when Bloomfield is bouncing. We certainly offer him a different challenge to what he has experienced before, especially with the investment going into the training facility and younger player development. So you never know he may be tempted to stay and take the club forward 👍

He wants to work again to prove that how it ended at Cardiff isn't him.

We need some sort of inspiration from somewhere. A real single-minded focus on getting results and making every advantage count for four months as its been drifting.

Respective back-scratching.

Could be shit, could be good. Could be making a bad situation even worse. But at least it looks like this Badlan lad is a nerd for football and knows whats needed from his side of it.

I feared we were going to let Appleton's four year contract do the talking and that would likely mean a fresh start in league one. It still might for someone if we can't recover. But we've seen a reaction this week to finally show what we're trying to do here and it feels like the right reaction in the circumstances.

If we're doing it right then in a years' time we're 8th in the championship with some random new hipster manager in charge and Mick McCarthy gets a heroes reception next time he comes back for a job well done.

Yep, he may just prove to be a good fit for us. I'm certainly optimistic.
One thing's for sure, we've never in my lifetime appointed a manager that has two league titles in the league we're playing in. Interesting, dare I say, exciting times.
