Meat of choice

mick lynch doesn't represent train drivers. It's the cleaners and ancillary staff. To be fair to train drivers they carry 250+ and they deserve to earn 70k a year. I dont buy into this attitude that they don't deserve a pay rise because x does this and y does that.

I’d have more respect for the unions if they sorted out the lowest paid rather than demanded huge rises for the very well paid. A high percentage raise across the board isn’t affordable and is inflationary. So let’s sort out those paid minimum wage etc and not focus on the greedy highest paid. I don’t care how many passengers are on a train. That doesn’t lend itself to having more pay. It’s a nonsense. It they have a train which eventually could take many more carriages - let’s say double - does that mean they get £150k? No.

A bus driver has the lives of many in the bus or coach but they get paid peanuts.

The RMT represents the ancillary staff not the drivers. The trains aren't running when RMT members walk out. I wouldn't call train drivers greedy, they earn an average 60k a year, that's not a huge amount in this era for a job as responsibleas that. Why wouldn't they want pay to keep in line with inflation? If bus drivers are on a pittance is that a reason to keep train drivers salary as they are?
Pay has remained stagnant for 10 years but inflation is through the roof, so its bogus that wages are fuelling inflation, Its a tad more complicated than that. Maybe shareholders want the profit to be funded by the workers? Profits seem to be very healthy but payrises cause inflation (payrises that haven't been given yet).
The left is accused of the politics of envy, but its apparent that right leaning working people have an issue with fellow workers bettering themselves.

We had gammon that @maxnix cooked in Coca Cola (delicious I might add!) and turkey cooked by me. I cooked them breast side down wrapped in foil for 13 minutes per pound (not 20 as always recommended) and then browned them for the last 30 mins. Was very tender. In our haste to serve 15 people and keep the food hot, we forgot the beef, so we’ll enjoy that today 😀

Yes it’s been a good earner. Have had six or seven no shows though. That’s a bit frustrating. You drive to a location and the customer isn’t there.

But I’ve had some nice conversations with lots of lovely passengers. Good tips too.
Called them blacks back in the 80's when it was a no show. Suppose the council have banned this sort of talk over the radios.
Couple of other ones I can remember,
any leather in the pit
apples in the orchard

Never understood why people call Turkey dry? Must be cooking it wrong! Keep it wrapped on a layer of bacon, baste it regularly. Prob my favourite meat, could eat it all year round.

Out of interest Shandy how long do you cook it for? Minutes per pound if possible?

They’re still known as blacks amongst us cabbies. Though I don’t know the origin of the term.

I’ve never heard of the other ones 🤷‍♂️🤣

Don’t get me wrong, I do agree with the right to strike across most industries and professions.

I get that there’s a general devaluation of wages due to inflation and cost of living etc. Furthermore, I think all should get an annual wage rise regardless of their level of pay.

However, its drastic times for the economy and the public finances at the moment. During these difficult times it’s those on the lowest wages that are disproportionately affected.

So I’ve no sympathy with the train unions holding out for a large rise across the board.

I’d support action and respect the unions more if they campaigned for significant rises for their lowest paid. But they don’t. They’re after huge rises for those on huge wages. That doesn’t sit well with me. That’s just my opinion. They talk about support from the public. Well I doubt they have much. I don’t empathise with those paid well above the national average when they’re blighting lives and incomes of millions who are trying to make ends meet and get to work, run a small business, or visit loved ones.

Zero sympathy from me. In fact, less than zero if that’s possible.

The RMT generally represent the lower paid within the railway industry. Aslef represents drivers, different unions so they'll have different aims I would assume. Anyway just because someone is paid over the national average doesn't mean they should fall behind when inflation is running rampant and it doesn't appear that shareholders are bearing any brunt of this. I'd sooner train drivers get a decent payrise and the shareholders can collect a smaller dividend. In fact I'd sooner the transport industry be nationalised but that's a different story. Anyway we are seriously OT I'll stick to Turkey and have a good Christmas.

The way I cook a turkey makes it very moist. Place it breast side down on foil and then wrap it to make a tent. Let it steam for 13 minutes per pound. Turn it around, breast side up, and brush olive oil over it for the last 30 minutes without the foil to brown it.
This way, you don’t need to keep basting it…

Leather in the pit - blackpool north station, leather suitcase.
Apples in the orchard, if I remember rightly, there was an orchard at hawes side lane/ellesmere rd , apples meaning people.

Sounds like a plan. What temperature do you have the oven at though?

Thanks very much. I have written it all down word for word, and going to try it out.
We’ve basically been overcooking them for donkey’s years, due to my mother in law’s ancient, and obviously wrong timings🙄.
Well I was the same and always cooked it for 20 minutes per pound, plus 20, basting it regularly… and it was always dry, until I read a piece about the perfect turkey cooking times and it really was a revelation 😂
Let me know what you think ..

OK- will do if I can. 20 plus 20 are exactly the same timings we have been using.
