Meat of choice

Beef for us with a chicken for those who dont want beef.

Turkey is , to me , dry and uninteresting.

Agree that turkey is a dry meat, but the turkey crown is usually pretty good, so turkey crown it is
I'd probably say beef is my favourite, but the Mrs likes lamb, so lamb it is on boxing day.

Edit, bloody pricey though. We only bought a small crown because there's only 4 of us this year. £19 and it's the size of a slightly large sparrow.

Traditional for us turkey crown plus sous vide gammon that gives me enough time for 1-2 hours in the pub which is also traditional!

Turkey is a “dry meat“ so you go for the crown that is the white “dry” meat and don’t get the legs that are the dark moist meat?..makes zero sense unless aim missing your point

Turkey and a Big Gammon too which I slow cooked today and finished off in the oven with a maple syrup and coarse grain mustard topping

Turkey here for the 1st time ever (well since I was a kid at my parents). Young daughter suddenly decided she likes Turkey so we bought one.

Never cooked one before. How do you get the feathers out?

First of all, catch it, screw its neck, then pluck it and remove the innards.

I can remember my mum at Christmas plucking the Turkey and the Goose bought from a local farm, which we used to have on Boxing day. There were feathers everywhere and a short tempered mother.

Never understood why people call Turkey dry? Must be cooking it wrong! Keep it wrapped on a layer of bacon, baste it regularly. Prob my favourite meat, could eat it all year round.
Correct re the cooking. I also fill the cavity with quartered oranges and lemons, with half an onion at the entrance to keep it all in.

Chicken tikka with my shahi balti. 10 of us going for a curry, did it for the first time last year and it was a hit.

Chicken dinner with the trimmings tomorrow for the four of us.

Feck cooking for 10.

I had turkey at the River Wyre yesterday. It was very good.

I won’t eat today. Working. Don’t tend to eat on a long shift. Got a flask of tea. That’s it until the early hours.

There’s nowhere open to grab a butty or pasty. And even if I stumble across a garage with sandwiches, I won’t buy them cos they’ll have Mayo in them or margarine. I’d rather not eat.
Merry Christmas ya filthy varmints.

You could always pop into a food bank 😏😄

Starting with a little appetiser of pistachios helped down with elderflower wine, then smoked salmon with home-baked soda bread accompanied by a chilled gewurztraminer. Then roast lamb, potatoes roasted in duck fat, sprouts and broccoli lubricated by a gran reserva extramadura tempranillo. No oudding, but a nice cheeseboard. Job done, just off to switch the oven on.

I ended up choosing the sea bass and I chose well. My favourite crimbo dinner ever. Mrs C and I my old dear went to Le Patio in St Annes. It was our first crimbo since my old fella passed and it's a shame Pa couldn't have been with us, because he'd have loved it. Not been to Le Patio before, but will definitely be returning. All our food was excellent and the staff were very attentive. Highly recommended.

Out of interest is it worth working today?

Thinking of having Xmas Dinner out next year with the whole family about 14 any recommendations? Tired of cooking now over Xmas be nice to be waited on for a change 👍

By the way, there’s a £3 additional charge on the starting fare on Xmas day and Boxing Day. So that helps.

But I don’t like charging some folk the extra. For example, I picked up a regular from a nursing home. So I just charged her the normal rate. I hate how care workers are paid so poorly and valued so little by our society. If I had my way I’d give them a minimum of £15 an hour. They fully deserve it as well as deserving more recognition.

So forgive me for not sympathising with striking train drivers on £65k or £70k a year.

And yeah I’ll put my money where my mouth is and help out an underpaid care worker on Christmas Day in what small way I can

mick lynch doesn't represent train drivers. It's the cleaners and ancillary staff. To be fair to train drivers they carry 250+ and they deserve to earn 70k a year. I dont buy into this attitude that they don't deserve a pay rise because x does this and y does that.
