Mayors Chaffeur

Received this from the council; complete waste of money as is having a car:

Blackpool Council would like to invite you to submit a quotation for the provision of a Mayoral Chauffeur / Attendant service to the Mayor of Blackpool Council.

Most councils have now dispensed with such services

But surely if Blackpool better is assumed into the new Lancashire authority, there won't be any ceremonial events for the mayor to attend
If you read the policy paper that you provided the link for, you'll see that the new authority will take over matters where there is a strategic benefit to covering all three authorities. That does not cover ceremonial occasions. Within Lancashire there are separate mayors for most of the shire towns.

All seems a bit pointless to me, just like Ms Benson

What's wrong with him/her driving themselves?
Claim mileage (legitimate mileage).
He/she can't go far very often.
Waste of money.
The mayoral role is to meet and greet people and organisations that can benefit the town. That will, inevitably, involve libation. Hence, no self driving.

We could knock down the town hall too, put up a portacabin and save some money. Most stupid idiots complaining about the mayoral car and driver would be moaning even more.

It never ceases to amaze me that when we devolve, or centralise, the only things that seems to increase are politicians and civil servants. Great gig when someone else is paying.

Civil servants. Are you having a laugh?

693,000 in 1981 when I joined.

522,000 now and set for a 25% further cut, as Brexit is all done and dusted (according to the Government)

130500 jobs created by Brexit... ?
Another positive 😉

Not at all. Constant reduction for 40 years, as well you know.

Given that the civil service is a major employer in a deprived area, I don't think it's anything worth celebrating for the Fylde.

The 😉... seems to have been lost on your good self....the number of UK dairy farms has reduced by 78% since 1993... so you’re not on your own...😳

I would have thought most Mayoral Chauffeurs will be on zero hours contracts now, combining transporting dignitaries and dominoes....

And if the mayor turned up to a formal event soaking wet, having walked in the rain from the tram stop, you'd say it was Labour being amateurish. Be honest, you like to have a dig.
Nonsense. Use a brolly. Many councils dispensed with Mayoral cars 20 years ago. When staff are being made redundant. Many mayors drive anyway
