Maybe you’re not good enough Critchley

Critchley says we’ve got to improve………. Understatement!!!!!
He says we didn’t stop crosses coming in and can’t afford to keep doing that !!!
Then stop playing with three centre halves and play with proper fullbacks as a back four ……… where’s Lyon’s you can’t expect Hamilton to defend ….. who was useless , might as well not been on the pitch.
Start playing the players we’ve brought in from the start , Dembele should be in from the start ( must be wondering how can not get in this team ) for creativity alone ,put Kouassi in along side Rhodes , he may be a bit raw but got to be better than Beesley, or why buy him , he scored after being on 10 mins against Barrow ! Bring back Matty Virtue he’s likely to score from midfield, allow Norburn more freedom to push up rather than defend (he was quite a prolific goal score in his time ) play more forward than backward balls ,and play Carey who has pace and links up well with Dembele .
Critchley seems to bring players in and then he doesn’t play them or they disappear into the background ……….Oakley Booth what’s happened to him he looked ok maybe when Joseph is fit ………. he’ll probably not play him due to lack of match time !! the problem the young lad will have is the build up of expectation on him the longer we struggle upfront.

I’ve not posted for a while since my my last post “ Under no circumstances bring back Critchley’ ……… but I thought got to get behind the team ,as always renewed the season ticket however ……..
Critchley says we’ve got to improve it’s not good enough………… maybe he’s sadly not good enough unfortunately as predicted . I say it again I hope I’m wrong for the clubs sake…….. but it’s not looking good at the moment.

Most teams at this level don’t have guile to play through the centre, a large majority of the goals scored come through the wide positions.

As a result the back 3 exposes either the wing back to have to drop into a back 5 or pulls a CB out of position and forces them to go 1v1 against a tricky winger who will beat them most times for pace.

It just has to be a back 4. Then it’s a case of do you want attacking full backs like Lyons or Gabriel (can leave gaps again at the back) or defensive ones like Hubby or Connolly (reduces our attacking intent).

I’m on record of wanting Critchley to stay as statistically no team is successful when they keep changing managers. It often takes two or three seasons for success to come and I’m patient enough to wait for that.

However, I’m not comfortable with this 3-5-2 experiment - I’d rather see the back 4 and then variants of midfield / attack experimented with until it clicks. The back 3 is being abandoned by most successful teams across Europe now so Neil please restructure now and find the blend in September whilst there’s time enough.

You do wonder what happens in the dressing room at halftime. We were asleep at kick off.
That second goal was simply negligent by by all involved. A ball comes over unchallenged, a centre half watches the ball fly over and supposed right wing back is yards off the man, couldn’t be bothered to challenge it and get closer and watches him score.
That isn’t about technical ability.

There’s 2 issues where everyone can see the solution immediately.
1. Stop playing full backs on the wrong side of the pitch
2. Stop going long to Beesley and not even competing for the 2nd ball.
Don’t need to be a football genius to sort those 2 out. He’s been moaning about marginal offside decisions, which is an insult to anyone who watched the game. Needs to open his eyes

As a ‘Coach ’it’s good to experiment on the training ground and if successful try it in match however as a ‘Manager’ you have decide when it doesn’t work and then change it for the better . Unfortunately Critchley is not carrying out the Management side out very well and continues to persist with a failed system.

I mainly agree however it does take time on the actual pitch to hone a system you’ve practised in training.

Both Liverpool and City took a season if not 3 in Liverpools case until both the system and the players fitted. Similarly Arsenal two years ago.
Ten Haag is suffering the same now at United and the Twitter virgins are screaming for his head already.

We are just not patient anymore in this world of instant gratification.

As an aside, I spoke with Gary Bowyer recently who said he rarely gets to implement what he wants as he knows there isn’t a middle term for managers anymore so sticks to the basics that players get. He said he’s never had an owner who said to him take your time

Good point but if we could just see a glimmer of things starting to gel it would help.

The basics are playing players in positions they are comfortable in and add value to the team.

This is what made Holloway so good. He got players playing 110% in roles they knew and understood. It's a simple game overcomplicated by idiots.

Agreed.

Yet his first time around you had veterans like Gaz Goals and Maxi singing his praises saying how he made things easy for them, plenty of detailed and improved their games?

Surely one failed job at QPR for a couple of months can’t of changed that?

I do think he’s over elaborating it all right now. A bit of simplicity wouldn’t go amiss.
