Matty Virtue chance

Good save or bad miss?
He regularly is there in support of strikers with late runs, but we may have better options now.
For me that was a good save, the keeper closed the space well

Only saw it at the time on the TV but it looked like a really poor miss to me, seemed to have plenty of time and a decent angle to beat the keeper. The sort of chance that if it wasn't so early in the season he would probably score as he wouldn't be as rusty.

Even though yesterday wasn't our best performance attacking wise we still broke Exeter down a half dozen times and gave ourselves some relatively clear chances, but Exeter with all credit to them recovered defensively really well, and the keeper made some decent stops.

If virtue maybe had a few more minutes under his belt he might have done better, but all credit to the keeper.

A bad miss would be blazing it wide of the target.
More composure/ability and he drinks it over the advancing keeper.
He went to hit it low and hard giving the keeper the chance to make a good save. He didn't do a lot wrong, you win some, you lose some, you draw some, that's football.

Watching on TTV abroad I thought great save because the keeper was out to him so quickly. Would be interested to hear from somebody who had a better view, was there enough space either side of the keeper and did he just hit it straight at him?

The Exeter fans thought it was a good reaction and save by their keeper.
I would start Virtue / Weir and Dougall next match. Morgan and, particularly Carey have looked anonymous.

He hit it well but it was a great save, just one of those things. He looked dangerous when he came on and I'd be tempted to start him and Weir on Tuesday and rest Varey and Morgan.

It was a good save.
You see it regularly and the best players in the World have chances saved with a one on one.

It irritates me when I read a matchday thread and the number of so called “ sitters” we miss.
A sitter is when it’s easier to score than miss. A gaping open goal and the player blazes wide.
Some great examples on YouTube and even MOTD will have a few this season.
Rant over !

I wouldn't say it was a poor miss and the keeper reacted well but he should have scored it. This is the difference though isn't it between a very good att midfielder/player and dare I say average ones like Virtue or Carey or Beesley etc. All midfielders/players work hard and try hard but it's having that bit of quality at the end whether that's a pass or a finish when it really matters. Hopefully Weir has that, I'll reserve judgement on Morgan as he looks decent but not seen enough of him yet.

The keeper came out quickly but the attacking player will always feel they should score.

A composed attacking player might even feint to shoot and cut back inside to slot into a more open net.

Wasn't to be, we didn't deserve the win anyway.

I just watched it back and wouldn't even really describe it as a chance - there again if it would have fallen to Lavery he'd have looped it over the keeper in to the back of the net!

Maybe he could have hit it earlier, but he hit the target and full credit to the alert keeper. Disappointing he didn't score but cannot call it a bad miss.

He should’ve scored it.He went with his side foot when he should’ve put his laces through it or toe poked it past him.Keeper was out narrowing the angle early to be fair.

I’m not going to dig him out in it too much as he generally played well when he came on
