Mark Menzies

Wasn't Menzies in trouble before the 2015 Election for showing a Rent Boy around the House of Commons and obtaining drugs from him?
Then the good people of Fylde voted him back in with the highest majority in the country.
How do you become an MP these days? What's the selection criteria or do you just send in 6 Zoom ice lolly wrappers like Benton and Maynard and go in a free draw.
Zoom? You're going back a long way there my lad.

And then refusing to comment on it. If nothing comes of the Raynor stuff, he should be done for wasting police time.
I would imagine if she had owned the house for some while then this will go nowhere. The whole system is a farse. Theresa May was one of my neighbours for a few months about 30 years ago as she stood in my constituency. I never saw her or anyone else once; assumed the house was empty. She supposedly rented it. I worked with a politician who was arrested for falsifying an address; which he admitted but he was never charged.

What bothers me is that a person in power associates with seedy people in seedy places with drink & drugs etc, leaving themselves wide open to blackmail. Misappropriation of funds is the tip of the iceberg.

I am amazed that he survived the first incident with the Brazilian rent boy.
The rent boy was in the country illegally and seemingly Menzies asked him to procure drugs.
Surely these two things should have seen him have the whip withdrawn and perhaps recalled.
And now this.

In 2014 he was in the Gazette saying 'I strongly refute these allegations and will bring forward evidence shortly". Ten years on, still waiting.

Incredible story, will be interesting to see what the true events were.

Being held in a flat and forced to pay £6,500 to be let go seems unbelievable to me.

Apart from these minor incidents was he a good MP
Minor incidents? Taking illegal drugs and paying blackmail money? Is that what you expect of your representatives in Government?

It's like saying Hitler and Mussolini made the trains run on time.

  • Haha
Reactions: no9

The party that keeps banging on about immigration has an MP who, it would seem, paid to have sex with an illegal immigrant and also reportedly asked the rent boy to buy illegal drugs for him.
I am surprised the police did not investigate - if this is true as was reported he is certainly not a suitable person to be an MP. At the very least we can expect MPs to obey the law.

Don't worry - I am sure James Daly has put in a request for the police to investigate.*

* obviously not

BBC was at it again this morning. In a report about the Fylde bi-election they were interviewing people in Blackpool about how the town was so deprived and in ruins. WTF has that got to do with Mark Menzies or Fylde? Every opportunity to slag off Blackpool and the BBC is onto it.

Is there a by-election in Fylde , thought Menzies was still an Independent MP . It must be the first time in living memory that there isn’t a Tory MP in Fylde constituency .

The report I heard was about the bi-election in Blackpool South (Today program) - they actually interviewed somebody inside the Armfield club. There is no bi-election scheduled in Fylde atm, although that could change in the light of these revelations.
I don't think the report slagged off Blackpool either - it was about the effect of 'levelling up', local issues etc. and what has changed since the 2019 election. It mentioned some of the investment in the town.

Fair play. There was pic of Menzies on the screen when I walked in so I assumed the report was about him. Still, no reason to have another kick at the town. I wonder how many interviews the BBC carries out to get the critical ones it needs for its report.

Not yet. Based on how long it took the standards committee to conclude Benton's investigation, it's likely there will be a General Election before a by-election in Fylde.

You have to feel a little bit for the Tory councillors who do a decent enough job in this part of FY8 at least getting totally let down by this power abuser. I'm sure there will be votes against as a result come May.

I'm no Tory btw just being fair.
I wo

sounds more like they were discussing the issues which are likely to affect the way people will vote which seems quite reasonable

100 MPs leaving at the next election, 58 of them tories. Good riddance to the lot of them, let’s hope there’s a new era where potential MPs have learned from the past mistakes of others and their job is to do the best they can for their constituents, not themselves.

There is a good argument for limiting the continuous service as an MP to no more than 10 or 15 years. It seems that if one has a safe seat then complacency and entitlement tends to set in after that, possible leading to corruption or at least dubious behaviour.

But then again, there are those like Menzies who seem to be wrong’uns right from the start.

Strangely specific amount of money for the hostage taker to ask for? Normally it would be a round figure “give us £5k and you can go”

Screams out total bollux and a clear lie. “Give me £6.5k and you can go”.

the arrogance of power.

Maybe that was the xchange rate for a certain number of Brazilian reals?

There have been some real stalwarts in the House of Commons. Brilliant MPs, right across the House. At the moment we seem to have a breed of halfwits who don't understand the concept of service.

In my opinion those MPs are in the minority. And the MPs’ Expenses Scandal proves that self-interest tends to trump public service. It’s probable that the unavailability of that corrupt source of additional income was the root cause of Menzies’ unconventional methods.

That or mental health issues.

Excusing corruption by invoking mental health issues is a common form of deflection in the court room. It doesn’t usually work as a defence, though it can lessen the sentence from a politically sympathetic judge.

Menzies has resigned from the Tory party and won't be standing in the next election.

So much for strenuous denial of all allegations.

A friend of mine is a friend of a local Tory councillor(his choice), he says Menzies is even worse than the things that are in the public domain! Reckons he should've been potted years ago but he knew how to manipulate the older Tory women that run and dominate the local party.
Menzies asking for privacy at this time as it has been hard on his elderly mother is disgusting, he should've thought of that before and behaved in an appropriate manner for an MP.

If he has mental health issues then he has my sympathies, especially if his conduct has been caused by them. However, he needs strong, personal advice about his conduct given that he is in public office.

Yep.
My sympathy for his mother is confined to her having such an idiot for a son.

Hopefully the next Fylde MP will be of a different mould - someone who is not likely to be seen running down the road without his trousers.
