Just travelled back from visiting my daughter in North Wales travelling along the M56 towards the M6, this motorway was closed at junction 12 with terrible diversion signage (as usual) well we ended up crossing the Mersey via the Widnes - Runcorn bridge, following the useless signage this is where you end up.

Now been charged £2.00 for the privilege of a detour via Widnes and St Helens to re join the M6.

The detour signage if you're unsure is totally bloody useless, getting sick of this useless countries road network, it is nothing short of a disgrace.

Money making scam. That's disgraceful.
 
An even bigger bridge was opened in Scotland - The Queensferry Crossing - in the same year as the Mersey Gateway one. That one however is toll free. It's scandalous how the English get charged and the Scots don't especially when the original Runcorn bridge was free and they also now charge for that one too.

I have avoided the area ever since. Used to sometimes shop in Runcorn but not any more. In future, follow the Daresbury Expressway to Warrington to avoid the toll bridge if the M56 has issues.

think you have to pay it by midnight the next day or it increases to £20 and then £40 if not paid within 12 days....
 
Caught me out recently. Not from that area had no idea there was a toll bridge there ended up paying £22!

I presume that’s the new bridge….the old one was free.
Not been on the new one at all nor the old for a long time and won’t be in the future either.
The M56 and M6 road improvements 😂😂😂😂 ( joke) works seemed to have been going on forever and ever and ever, bit like the unnecessary new junction on the M55.
Experienced the former on my way back home from the Wigan game.The narrowing of the lanes in 50 mile speed zones are an accident waiting to happen.

They've put the toll on the old bridge as well. Just another way to screw more money out of people.
