Ran the Aussies oh so close losing by 3 runs today in a nailbiter, the last game is now a dead rubber other than we can draw the series 8-8 if we win and that menas they retain the Ashes.

I don’t get the risky reverse sweep that got Amy Jones out as England looked to be heading to victory, a really dumb shot as mentioned by the commentary team, after that Sarah Glenn just allowed far too many dot balls to get us home whilst Sciver-Brunt was smashing it at the other end.

Yes agreed. I've enjoyed the women's series but they will know they blew a great chance there. Maybe a warning for the men to keep it on the deck a bit more and just keep the scoreboard ticking this week. I'm just hoping the weather doesn't let us down.

They’ve done really well, but just like the men too many rash shots and dropped catches - and the standard of umpiring was poor too.

Lost it in the last over of the Aussie innings going for 30.
Disappointing as that last Australian over was there was plenty of chances to win the game when we batted, I was so frustrated watching firstly that stupid reverse sweep shot to dismiss Amy Jones as her partnership with Sciver Brunt was cruising to success, then Sarah Glenn conceding so many dot balls as Nat Sciver Brunt was left off strike and in the form of her life ready to smash us home.

There will be tears in the England dressing room tonight because they had the Aussies by the throat and threw it away.

Re the risky reverse sweep. I was watching Blackpool at Stanley Park today and the one batsman who made runs for Blackpool, Josh Boyne, played that shot 3 or 4 times.....wth a trap set.
He was fortunate to get away with it twice so roughly a 50% chance of getting out.
He was eventually out in the final over chasing what would have been a well deserved century. He came in at 50 for 3 and scored 94 (or 93) in a total of 180 which proved to be too much for Fulwood and Broughton.
That reverse sweep though. So many ways of losing your wicket for a fancy crowd pleaser.......until it doesn't come off.

Yes as you say it looks great when it comes off, but teams set a trap for it now and if you don't get the elevation over the fielder it makes you look silly and Jones gifted her wicket tonight as we were cruising to victory and to take the Ashes in to the final game at Taunton.

Probably would have been better if Glenn had fallen early. She just didn't have the batting skills to manipulate singles, particularly against the Aussie spin. Correct that the rash shot before cost us the result though. A Bairstow of a shot.

Agreed Mark, I think we missed a trick big time on this one, in the last ODI Glenn's strike rate was poor again scoring just 3 from 10 balls before being dismissed, then Kate Cross came in and scored 19 from 20 to win us the match, surely with us needing 8 an over last night we should have promoted Cross as she's clearly the form batter out of the two, you cannot have so many dot balls when you're chasing 8 an over and that's why we finished an agonising three runs short.

Fantastic series.

Eng women are getting better every year and hopefully full houses, positive coverage and a Memorable series like this one, will see a generation of women‘s players coming through going better and entertaining us as much as other forms of the game

Well played both teams and the staging organisers

Yeah Sarah Glen cost us that game IMO. Was infuriating watching her prodding and poking the bat about. 3 times she took 4 dots before getting a single leaving Sciver-Brunt just 1 balls to try and score. They should have won but like you said previously some of them just gave their wicket away. Jones was crazy and the young girl Capsey needs some serious coaching. She simply just goes out there with the intention of hitting boundaries from every ball and inevitably gets out very quickly.

I went yesterday, great game.

So many if and buts for England. You have to take your chances against an Aussie team. Probably a day where fielding made the difference. Even down to the Aussie fielder turning a 4 into a 2 late doors.

The Aussies armoury of spin bowlers got them out of jail. When Beaumont was out, I thought England could only win if someone scored a ton. NSB scored the ton, but we still fell short.

As lots of people have said, sending Kate Cross in would have certainly worried the Aussies
more than Glenn

You’re right Mac, for me Capsey has the ability to be a superstar of world cricket if she learns that firstly you just can’t belt every delivery out of the park and secondly you need to play your way in to get a feel for what the pitch is doing, she’s young so hopefully she’ll learn.

Off to a flier today and now the English girls just simply cannot score. 7 runs from the last 4 overs. This is the difference between the men and women's game. The men will desperately try to rotate or hit their way out of it yet the women just seem to accept it and play defensively. Very frustrating to watch.

They’ve got going a bit now to be fair they simply had to.
Halfway stage sees England on 121/2 both batters doing well on 50+ each.
Phew that was a let off simple catch dropped. 😮

Very good score in the end after a very slow start England 285/9 and another brilliant ton by Scriver-Brunt. 👏
Second highest run chase ever for women if the Aussies do it.

Off for rain. 🤣

The rest of Europe is sizzling in 45 degree temperatures yet here it’s like Autum already.

The crowd at Taunton are sat with waterproofs and woolly coats and hats on.

So much for climate change. 🤷‍♂️

Looking good now for the English girls Australia 192/8 they need 77 more runs off 60 balls but only 2 wickets left.

Edit make that 194/9.

Edit 199 all out.

Well done England although the series is tied we win the T20’s and the ODI’s but Australia retain the ashes.

Brilliant win and we deserve to have won the Ashes, seems strange we've won both the white ball series and lost one Test yet Australia retain the Ashes, overall we've been the best side.

Little things win and lose series, I feel the lack of ambition to score runs or at least get off strike by Sarah Glenn in the last ODI killed us, we only lost by three runs yet she was guilty of being far too safe and ended up with 11 dot balls in her innings, that was the killer.

Was still thinking about her innings today. There was just no motivation to try anything to get off strike. The Aussies have great spinners, I accept that but with 2 more to come in after her she should have tried sweeping them. She did nothing. And yes that innings cost us because we were well on course and she just froze. Shame. I note she was dropped today.

Yes she was left out and rightly so, obviously no one from the England camp commented about it in a negative way, but inside the group they must have been furious about her innings and the lack of any intent because if she'd played a little bit more positively then the Ashes would definitely be in our hands now.
