The best of their albums for me.I remember the very first time I heard this song back in '77 when I was in my last year at school. One of the lads in my class brought 'The Clash' album into school and we crowded round a portable Dansette record player in the main hall at lunchtime and were all blown away by the music and lyrics that were on that album.
TOON Seasider, how old were you when you left school? I was 17 when The Clash was released, in the lower 6th. Friends bought loads of punk stuff, some of which is now rare. I wasn't allowed. I bought the album when I was at university.I remember the very first time I heard this song back in '77 when I was in my last year at school. I didn't see much punk stuff but I did see The Jam, The Dickies and The Ramones at Leeds and The Gang of Four and The Slits at Eric's in Liverpool. Also, The Mekons at Leeds and The Selecter in Manchester.I was 15 when I left, turning 16 in the August. The album was brought into school by a lad who was an ardent Chelsea FC fan who had bought the record down in London. It was around exam time so it would have been May or June of '77. After hearing it I was hooked, and in the next 3 years at college I went to loads of punk / new wave concerts all over the country.
