Listening to the full album now and following Tim Burgess's listening party on Twitter..

I was more of an Unknown Pleasures fan myself, but listening now, two albums that both were so influential even to this day. They sound like they were recorded next week, not 40yrs ago. Side two of Closer is immense.

Re-issued today on clear vinyl. Even though I've got the original album, the cd, and the remastered cd I might buy the reissue tomorrow.

Shout out to the listening parties on Twitter, brilliant idea.

Can never resist a Joy Division thread! ‘Atrocity Exhibition’ for me, a menacing track, loved Stephen Morris’s drumming on it. This is the way, step inside.

Closer and Crocodiles both released on the same day 40 years ago and still two of the greatest albums ever.

As is usually the case with Factory the 40th anniversary clear vinyl release is immense with added red to the label and inner of both sleeves. Beautiful and the music still sounds so good . . Decades, 24 hours, The Eternal . . .stunning.

WONDERFUL album ,every track a gem with new dawn fades and she s lost control being my favourites. This has given me 40 years pleasure listening to this and Closer. Joy Division to me are simply the best band/music act there has ever been. Tangerine Trev I was around at the time and promised myself I would get to see them I believe they were sensational at the Imperial. I have made few mistakes in life but not see ing them live will haunt me to the grave.

I’m a big JD fan, I love both albums, and the earlier/later stuff, released in eps etc, if you get the substance 77-80 lp, it’s got the early punky type stuff and seemingly non album tracks like atmosphere etc...awesome stuff...

4DE4172D-10C9-4AF3-8527-6ED3F700EF0F.jpegKilling, just dug this out it was a freebie flexi-disc 7inch played at 331/3, ‘Incubation‘ on one side, and ‘komakino‘ and an unnamed instrumental on the other. Can’t remember if it came whilst purchasing a record or was something to do with N.M.E. at the time. They were hazy days! Any ideas?

Yeh, just done a bit of googling and it probably is worth a few Bob.its not going anywhere though!

Unknown Pleasures is one of the greatest debut albums ever made. Closer is haunting, prophetic, brilliant but in some ways too clinical and over produced. My favourite track is "Decades" a swirling, majestic and fitting epitath to Ian Curtis.

Saw New Order last year, outdoor gig mid summer. Finished with a brilliant rendition of Decades just as the sun disappeared behind the stage. Awesome.

Most overrated band ever. Become trendy to pretend you like them but come on does anyone actually put on a Joy Division CD?
The imagery and dourness of late seventies Manchester is done well but the music no way.
If you want to hear an album that’s superb and not that we’ll know listen to Neutral Milk Hotel, In the airplane over the sea. Immense

Unknown Pleasures is up there as one of my favourite albums ever, but I've never enjoyed Closer that much bizarrely.

NMH brilliant no doubt
Memphis JD were brilliant and way ahead of their time and so ere NO ip until late 80's
Not about being trendy it's about recognising the best British alt rock band of the last 40 years
Can see why a Trump supporter would have little time for them

Think I've got the Flexi disc somewhere. I left Blackpool at 18 to go to Oxford (not uni I may add!) , Closer just released and in my suitcase. I love it, cover, production, tracks, and still have all JD CDs in the car.
I was at the imperial , if I recall right it was JD, OMD, final solution, and glass torpedoes. Sadly I was so out of it I can barely remember anything, but had the privilege of seeing them a number of times.

Went to see the 35 year celebration of Ian Curtis at the venue of the first gig they played.
It was in a church in Macclesfield and Hooky played all tracks from both albums with his band.
A bit weird at first watching from a pew but soon ended up in front of the stage - a great night.

😃

I was there too T10.

JD never played there (or anywhere in Macclesfield). Christ Church was where IC went to church and sunday school. Its a great building and they are trying to raise money to re-purpose it whilst retaining all the listed features - not an easy task.

Oops. I was misinformed about the first gig bit then Bollie.
Think they called the event "so this is permanence".
Was still a good night though.

I went to the UCL gig which was Ian Curtis's final gig Feb 1980.

Never seen a singer like him, before or since, totally mesmerising and made you wonder what world he went into when he was in that trance like state.
