Joseph

I thought he did ok today. Made a nuisance of himself and unsettled the defenders. Admittedly I thought he should have shot at the end.

I think we've been here before, we had all this with Beesley, who is now injured so we switch to Joseph.
He will come good as and when he gets fitter and in turn is more relaxed.
I think he is trying too hard to become the striker we all crave in an instant, he has been out a fair while it will take time.
And patience.

Yeah Rhodes didn’t score or get a shot away, or create an assist, or do a step over, or burn their defence for pace. He can go back the old donkey.

Ffs the kid made one bad decision. He should have shot and tried to play in another player. I’m sure he’d wished he had his time again to be a hero. He will come good.
If he had shot it would probably have been blocked and then it wouldhave been 'why didn't he lay it off to Dale who was free.'

Just been re-reading this thread and I think 5 months in I still haven't worked out what he is.
He puts himself about, he's a strong lad, looks committed, has decent foot to ball abilities and isn't afraid of a tackle however, for whatever reason (maybe formation!!) he also appears to be a low impact player.

People who have seen him play regularly say he plays wide in a front three, a system that we don't play, so possibly hard to judge him and also difficult to understand why we bought him if we don't play that way.

We have the players perfect for a front three... Joseph, Rhodes and then either CJ or Dale or even Dembele. Dembele could play as a forward or in a midfield three depending on whether we need to be create or more solid in the midfield.

The formation we play now is ridiculous and something I will never relate to hence my ongoing fury with all things BFC.

Last night was a perfect example. Rather than change the formation, let's play Dom Thompson at centre half!

He seems more of a no9 to me. He can hold it up and bring others into play. He seems to have a good footballing brain.

Not sure if he has the pace to play out wide.

Could be wrong of course. We don't have too much to go off at the moment. I wouldn't be writing him off by any means just yet. There's a player in there. He just needs to nail down a position and have a good run in the side.

I think he will come good, highly rated at Wigan when he broke into their team at a young age

Not sure we are getting the best out of him in this system though, will probably play better in a front three
Played in a three last night with Carey and Dale either side.
He did OK but when Lavery came on he offered something different.

I kind of agree with the o/p still don't know what type of striker he is but with his age he's got plenty of time to develop like a lot of centre forwards.

Play Dom Thompson at centre half and leave Casey on the bench was a stranger decision.

His stats suggest he should be scoring around 1 goal every 4 games which is about 11 a season. If he stays injury free & gets his rhythm going who's to say he won't achieve that or better. He may have a Jerryesque flurry of goals soon.

One thing I love about Joseph is his work rate , he really runs his socks off ! Not sure he will become a prolific goal scorer but I feel confident he has a lot to offer .

If he maintains the performance levels of the last 2 games, there are going to be a few people on this thread eating humble pie. 😂
I don't see an issue with the observation that he's offered very little, aside from the last two games. The question is, why it took so long to find the effort levels of the last 2 matches

Jeez , coming back from a long term injury could have something to do with it . Ask Oxford fans about the effort he put in for them last season.

Can't believe this thread is only a couple of weeks old reading some of the comments...talk about knee jerk
Absolutely love the lad..he's a breath of fresh air and looking forward to the rest of the season if he stays fit.
Yep spot on me too.

We always see comments of players being written off.

With Joseph, he was coming back from injury and just needed time to get back to full fitness. Never really had a doubt that we would see what we are starting to see from him. Long may it continue.

I don't think he's taken long, he's made a pretty quick impact since he's been put in the starting line-up.

He's only started four times for us in the league and we've won three of them. All his other appearances have been the odd ten minutes at the end of games to get his fitness levels up. So as a first 11 player he's had an impact pretty quickly I'd say.
It was completely ridiculous that people were judging him despite having hardly started a single game for us.
