Jet Black RIP

Iconic band. I saw them this summer at Stone Valley festival, they were my personal highlight. I can’t think of any other band whose original line up replacements are as good.
RIP Jet 🇯🇲

Saw them at Lancaster Uni in 78 or 79. It was the gig where we all went in a transit van and rushed the doors and got in for free. Great band !
I think I might have been in that mini bus. If my memory is right did it leave from the Oxford?
Something similar happened for both The Jam and Graham Parker & the Rumour gigs.

I honestly can't remember ! It was Benny's and the Rammy, we kicked the door in and I was definitely there ! My vague memory thinks it was an Avesco transit van and not a minibus. I think that Raging Bull was with us, although I could be wrong !

Sad news, my musical heroes. Remember being at a gig twenty years or more ago at Finchley, next day saw that JB had been taken to hospital with cianide poisoning from melting plastic curtains on stage.
His biography is an interesting read.

I was there, thought it 77, remember loads of Pool being there too and me keeping away from the stage as the word was that JJB was throwing bottles of piss over the audience during the gig and I had nice hair.

I've just checked one of my record boxes under the stairs and still got Rattus Norvegicus, a great album. I saw them late 70's and the last few years ( usually March in Birmingham) but stopped when he wasn't playing drums and Dave Greenfield died. No Hugh Cornwell not exactly the Stranglers is it

Played the lp last weekend. Survives the test of time beyond most I think.

I only saw them after Hugh Cornwall left. Definitely Stranglers with an asterisk but still a great live show.

I recently entered 'No More Heroes' into a Twitch song battle and can confirm it doesn't seem to be one appreciated by the younger generation over the likes of Taylor Swift. Oh dear!

Yes, still remember their scorching set back in ‘77in M/cr on the Heroes tour. I can still recall JJB swinging his bass at some aggressive bouncers who were hitting kids. Hugh Cornwall was a regrettable departure and Jet Black had basically retired a few years ago. Dave Greenfield was the greatest loss of the Pandemic. But I think they all leave a massive contribution to my music.

Rattus Norvegicus and No More Heroes are my albums that I play on the iPad to sleep by, if I am feeling a bit tense.
In fact, it’s 02:25 so here we go...

Sad to hear this but he had a good innings.
Very strange but yesterday, before I heard this news, I was walking around in Hove and found a record shop I had never been in before. I went in and bought Rattus and Black and White on vinyl as xmas presents for my daughter - who is showing some good taste in liking Magazine, so I thought she may well like the Stranglers. I came home and played a bit of the Stranglers in the afternoon while I was working. I did think about Jet Black and how old he must be now.
First saw them at Lancaster in about 81 or 82 and last saw them last year in Brighton. IMO their music generally stands the test of time - thanks for the memories Jet - a great band whose latest album is really good.
Anyone remember - Old Codger with George Melley on vocals - free single given out with Black and White, unfortunately the copy I bought didn't have it.

Was playing Old Codger the other night, great song. Hugh Cornwall was great recently supporting the Undertones on tour.

was listening to an interview with JJB a few months ago he was asked about jet, who apparently kept bringing up old rockers he was outliving despite being quite unwell.

I'm pretty sure I was in a mini bus but the Avesco Tranny van rings some bells. I recall trips to Torquay away in a van with Benny's Mob & Peterboro but than was a small furniture van rather that a Transit - I very nearly fell out the back of that somewhere on the M1/M6 , roller shut up, the old man out for a pish and then we hit a pot hole! Great memories. A bit like the Stranglers.............

Last time I saw them was the black and white tour possibly 6 years ago over in Liverpool. Really good night and mix of age groups which surprised me. First time I saw them was at Lancaster Uni late 70's. A group of us used to get a black cab there in style. 😎 We managed to get back stage that night and JJB wrote something obscene on the back of my jacket in massive letters (it's a family show so I won't repeat it)to the delight of a couple of groupies hanging around him. A couple of days later I got stopped by the coppers for wearing the jacket and strangely it disappeared a few days later from my bedroom never to be seen again! My mum was very sheepish about that! Keep the rhythm Jet wherever you are. 🤟
