It's time to get behind Liz Truss

She will do more damage to peoples lives and I am sure from her policies she will kill a lot more people then a murderer . Her first major decision to start fracking again , and look for more gas and oil will no doubt effect peoples lives in a negative way . I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of back hander may be coming her way . She certainly doesn't want to tax them. WHY? I wonder how many people will freeze to death with her so called energy cap.
I can guarantee that when she quits the role of PM, she'll be straight onto the boards of a number of energy suppliers as a thank you.

That's muddled thinking.

Being critical of her work to reduce energy prices by producing more of it and being critical of her not doing enough to lower prices?

You have to look at all her policies in the round rather than pick one you don't like.

What do you think about the NI increase reverse to put more money in people's pockets?
It's not more money, it's exactly the same money as we haven't started paying it yet.

Just think, if she'd told us all we were due a tax rise of a million pounds, then cancelled it, we'd be millionaires.

......it is absurd to state, almost as self-evident fact, that it is bound to collapse, that it cannot last even two years, based in part on an insulting dismissal of the credibility and intellect of all of the members of the new Government.

It is astonishing that pundits with no understanding of economics dismiss the Prime Minister’s ability in this area: she actually worked as an economist for Shell (ideal in the current climate) and as an economic director for Cable and Wireless. The first accountant ever in No 10 – she holds the qualification from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants – she is more financially literate and comfortable with complex policy matters than almost all of those who patronise her. The fact that she is reflexively written off as lightweight, a dilettante even, is more a reflection of the bizarrely misogynistic and classist minds of some of her more extreme critics than of any objective reality.

Kwasi Kwarteng, the Chancellor, holds a PhD in economic history from Cambridge, perhaps the ideal qualification for the moment; his War and Gold and Ghosts of Empire remain timely.

Suella Braverman, the Home Secretary, is an extremely competent, bright and personable lawyer who drives the Left crazy. Kemi Badenoch holds degrees in engineering and law, and is fiendishly clever. Jacob Rees-Mogg, with his background in finance, is the perfect pick for Business (and Energy), given the technical and intellectual complexity of his mission. Kit Malthouse, the Education Secretary, another accountant, has experience running a medium-sized business; Chris Philp, the Chief Secretary, has a degree in physics.

The list goes on. Of course, some ministers are weaker than others, but the average quality is a great improvement on many past governments. Matthew Sinclair, one of Truss’s advisers, is the best free-market economist of his generation in Britain today.
Turd polishing at its finest.

Thank fuck the PM is as financially literate as the Torygraph bootlicker suggests and the Chancellor has his PhD in economic history.

Imagine the mess we'd be in if they were a complete pair of fuckwits?
if only the pair of them could rise to the lofty heights of fuckwittery. Theres a mouldy piece of cheese ive just chucked in the bin that has more nous than trussed and Kami

The PM is the leader of the country being advised by a team of the best economists around but you think "we should let Labour take charge so she (Rachel Reeves) can be Chancellor"

I don't think I need to comment any further.
The advisers are not the "best economists" despite being "economists" they are ideologues pushing an agenda that is at best faith based and at worst specifically designed to do what is currently happening.

I'll add, just because she was an accountant doesn't mean that she couldn't be very knowledgeable about economics. She obviously isn't because she's a halfwit not because she's an accountant

There's something perverse about ridiculing the academic qualifications of highly educated government ministers whilst backing a shadow deputy leader with no educational qualifications. Must be a socialist thing.

How can you not see they are ridiculing the premise that education qualifies you to run the country well.

You try, I'll give you that.

Angela Rayner is doing a good job to raise herself up from a poor start in life. She's done well and I wish her all the best.

The Tories with the big academic and professional qualifications are wrecking the economy in spite of those qualifications.

That's the point.

A. They are not highly educated.
B. They are not specialists in the Department they are placed in.
C. They are well placed to maximise their own benefit and are doing so.

Being highly educated or even highly qualified doesn't necessarily mean being smart. It often means that stupid well educated people can better articulate their nonsensical ideas to the masses.
We’ve all met those that are “educated beyond their intelligence” with astonishing self confidence but very little talent.

I've genuinely not seen any of the debates etc around the leadership contest as I don't have a vote in it.

Let's hope she's only done it to get elected by the Conservative membership (like Keir Starmer adopting most of Corbyn's) and then plots a better course for the government.

Unlike Starmer, the Tories will swing behind her if she does change course because they want to be in power, rather than the ideological purity which affects about 25% of the Labour party membership.
This aged well. The last paragraph in particular is highly amusing, sorry 🤣

This is the best post ever made on this website.

Personally I found the ones where the 28-year-old media studies graduate was telling retired police officer @Bend it like Suddick how to do policing funnier, but whatever floats your boat. 👍
Nah, definitely you reposting an article that said said Liz Truss once worked for Shell and so anyone who thought she was about to wreck the economy was stupid.

Being "clever" is helpful, obviously. But you need to be able to be smart in a coherent way, across many areas. And you need good judgement and the ability to persuade others of the merits of your case.

The Prime Minister and her ex-Chancellor aren't being derided for being dim, necessarily. But they are lacking in all of the qualities I've just described and - seemingly - only willing to listen to others when a lot of damage has already been done.

Arrogance is the word.

“ only willing to listen to others when a lot of the damage has been already done.” Agree with that though have to mention basilrobbie3 it exactly mirrors your stance on continuing to attend home games when the vast majority on here were boycotting. Took you such a long time to listen to others didn’t it?🧐

If I was to get behind her, I would be sorely tempted to kick her so hard up the backside, as to launch her into space, never to be seen again!
