Good signing Joseph did well at Wigan as a kid, lost his way a little at Swansea but has bags of potential

This is just the sort of signing we should be making and I'm thinking Joseph and Lavery as our front two

The lad from Shrewsbury is best played as a right sided centre half and Norburn is a leader and a proper central midfield player who's good on the ball and strong in the tackle

Morgan will compete with Carey as the 10 or the 8 in a midfield 3

532 all day long with the current group and I actually like the look of it

Strong defensive set up, solid in midfield with a couple of young hungry strikers

A bit more flair needed behind the front 2? A more proven version of Carey? I still think we need 2/3/4 of the calibre of Norburn. We have the money to bring them in

Nah think it will be solid conservative stuff with plenty of 1.0 wins

I have to agree with you based on the squad as it stands we look like a 5-3-2 outfit.
With Gabriel likely to be missing early season we might start with Lyons at RB and Thompson at LB (CJ might sneak into that position though)
CBs are likely to be Pennington, Eky and Hubby for left side balance.
The mid-field 3 will probably be led by Norburn and then you've got Trybull/Dougall/Morgan/Carey/Virtue/Apter fighting for the other 2 positions.
Joseph/Lavery up top.
Who've I forgotten?

I like the more solid spine but still think we need a beast to handle and dish out the physical stuff upfront. Chris Martin would fit that role but ideally would like someone a bit more mobile. Plymouth proved that you can get out of this league playing high intensity football.

Not that familiar with Norburn,I’m sure I will have seen him.Has he got a bit of bite about him in the midfield or do we maybe lack a bit of physicality in that position?I know we have Callum Connolly we can use there but I’m thinking of a physical presence.

It’s taking shape and if we supplement this with a couple more signings and a couple of bits of quality on loan, I think we’ll do well.

I like Husband as left centre half, he’s a leader and committed just doubt him being available all season as seems to get injuries a lot and have a chocolate hamstring.

Norburn is hopefully the central midfielder we’ve needed for 2 years.

5-3-2 without the ball and 3-5-2 with it sounds good.

Tom Trybull?
Played first half against Southport so back from injury certainly looks like he could add steel in midfield.

Think a lot are forgetting Connolly. Best suited to a 532 as part of the defence. Will be very good in League 1.

If it is 532 think we need another cb, cm, striker and we’re done

Correct can defo fit in when one of our first pick 3 are out and knowing his character he'd probably hold down his place.

The new lad from Sutton is a unit.

There’s a lot of players like that this season. Think because we’ve had a relegation we’re seeing them as not good enough.

The likes of Connolly, Lavery, Carey, Dougall, Thompson…even Dale. There’s a lot of good existing talent.

Never been a fan of 3-5-2 unless you have 3 exceptional CH's with a combination of violence and silky ball playing skills, I'm not sure we have that. Speaking of violence we also need shithousery upfront, we speak of the need to replace Yates what about replacing Madine? If he ever gets fit Madine himself would be that replacement. I'd also like to see Keshi back with us though I doubt it. I think it will be the tried and trusted 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 that will get us through, well that plus violence and shithousery.

We don't have the wingers for 442

You need wingers for a 3-5-2 as well. CJ is one winger (he isn't a wing back) so a wide left needed possibly Carey... OK not Carey and little cover for injuries. Who would you suggest?

My current team would be (with Gabriel injured)
Grimmy
Lyons, EK, Penn, Thompson
??? Morgan, Norburn, CJ
Lavery, Joseph

Shove Lyons further forward when Gabriel returns, what's your team?

3-4-1-2 innit? 🤓

2 DMs and 1 AM.

Although Critch was talking about 1 DM and 2 AMs after the Southport game. Well, a 6 and two 8s.

You don’t need wingers for 3-5-2/5-3-2

There’s a huge difference between wingers and wingbacks, and it’s wingbacks needed for 3-5-2/5-3-2

Our wing play would be shit in a 3-5-2. Asking too much of Lyons and Thompson. The advantage is that it allows for two strikers so give and take.

Critchley will want players for different systems whether that be 3-5-2, 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1.
