It’s the owner that’s important

Every successful club of our size has achieved that success because of their owner. Of course the manager is responsible for success on the pitch but he’s only there because of the owner. And the owners of most successful small clubs go through several managers before hitting that perfect combination.

SS wants success and if SG doesn’t show any sign of improving what is now entirely the team he wants, playing the ‘tactics’ he believes will work, Grayson gets potted and Sadler brings in someone else. This he will do until either success is achieved or he considers it no longer worth spending any more of his money with little to show for it, something we all hope will be avoided by that success coming first.

While I understand the frustrations of us all in the current situation, the season really is only starting now in earnest for Grayson and be in no doubt nobody will be watching with a more critical eye than Simon Sadler. He’s proven to be a shrewd businessman and he won’t have any more loyalty to the manager than the manager has for the club.

Simon Sadler will lead Blackpool FC to many happy and successful times, of that I am sure, and my patience will continue to hold because it’s him that I’m backing, not the manager.

The club is in a better place now than what it was, yes on the pitch it's not going to plan but that will change with or without the current manager. The supporters have to be patient.

What many seem to be forgetting is that this club was bought by Sadler last year after 38 years of neglect by the previous custodians. This season I have seen so many off field improvements such as the new dressing room for the home team, the community trust hub in the north west corner, the extra backroom staff taken on etc. I'm sure that the results will come next season.

No business has ever achieved success with pissed off employees. As Aspie says, creating a productive and happy work environment is the essential first step in creating success that's sustainable.

It's the reason why our stay in the top two tiers was never going to last.

SS talked at the Fans Forum about planning ahead for the long term and gave the impression that he meant a decade or more. In that context, what is happening now is not nearly as significant as maybe we all think it is.

A lot of building blocks have been put in place since the summer, but they have had no time to consolidate their position as yet and that will take a while. In the meantime, we have to compete every week and although we had been doing OK up to December, this kind of run isn't really all that surprising.

I always thought this season was a free hit and still do. We aren't really very likely to do anything other than finish in mid-table and the summer break, and a chance to draw breath and plan again, can't come soon enough for me.

Looking at it purely from a strategy point of view Robbie, you're right, but this being a football forum every kick of every game is analysed and discussed critically, sometimes making it difficult to see the bigger picture.

A 10 years-or-more plan isn't always in the forefront of the mind when Madine misses a one on one in injury time 🙈 and Feeney bottles a 50/50 tackle in the opposition half but I'm with you in that our support of the bigger picture, with or without Simon Grayson, is more important.

Still no excuse for employing a 1580662181365.pngmanager..........

Yes, I see all of that all too well. 😀 I must confess that on the way home it was "Madine's Miss" I was dwelling on, rather than "Our Glorious Future".

It is the owner's job to think like that though, isn't it?

Had Madine scored near the end I feel we would all think a point well earned, I still don't think we are too far off.

Can I ask, when SS took over in the Summer, would we have had the same view on our league position six months into the season (bearing in mind SS's 2-3 year plan to get to the Championship) as we do now?

I for one was happy with the idea of one season to get sorted on and off the pitch followed by a season of expectation. Being Oyston free, considering all of their deliberate mismanagement was enough surely before mounting a serious promotion challenge in the second year.

It's impractical and unrealistic to expect more. Having said that this is my team and I hate to see us lose any time 🤔

As I said above, we will improve with or without Grayson.

Agree that this season is a free hit. Wonder what would have happened if this run would have started at the start of the season. Another couple of games and the team will be more or less Graysons signings. It is a worry that on present form over last six games together with Cambridge we are joint worse club in the whole football league. A big couple of weeks ahead. Up the pool Onwards and upwards
