IS this team as good as 10/11 or 11/12 teams

I don’t think so.
Team spirit/togetherness is definitely.
We just havnt got the same free flowing attacking style of those days.
Maybe playoffs and next season will see us develop more into a better all round team.
We’ve certainly come a long way so far.

Wrong comparison. It should be made against the perfect 10 team.

However, they still don't match up to that. Larry's team played better football but, to be fair, this current team have had to deal brilliantly with extraodinary circumstances.

Nope ... Unfortunately not but they are good to watch when on the boil .. Cannot think of one player (maybe Yates) in the current squad who you would pick over a player in the other two first eleven ..

I think you have to look at the division we're in and look at the squad we had in the same league from 2007.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I believe we are building our way to a very similar squad.

Paul Rachubka
Shaun Barker
Michael Jackson (c)
Ian Evatt
Robbie Williams
Claus Bech Jørgensen
Keith Southern
Wes Hoolahan
Keigan Parker
Andy Morrell
Danny Coid
David Fox
Scott Vernon
Ben Burgess

What a squad those lads were.
Difficult to compare "now" versus "then" most of the 07 squad were established players at that level and above. Hoolahan and Fox were possibly the only two younger players who kicked on another level. I know Evatt and Southern eventually played in the Premier League team but it's debatable whether they improved much as players.

The present day squad is more about potential but Maxwell, Ekpiteta, Yates, CJ, Ward, Dougall, Stewart, Garbutt and Husband would not look out of place in that squad if you're comparing like with like.

Not a fair comparison comparing a pretty premier league/championship team to a league one team. In comparing 06/07 then with ability alone I would say no but it does have better depth to it and they are both different teams. Also having to deal with exceptional circumstances aswell Covid and most of the first team out injured (but I’d argue that those available now would slot in nicely in the best XI)

Nowhere near but times change and you can only beat what is in front of you. I don’t like looking back. Bit like comparing Mathews with Keigan Parker. Both very effective at different times.

I can compare Matthews and Kiegan Parker and confidently say that Matthews was a million miles better.

I can also say with confidence that the perfect 10 side would trounce our current line up. Adi Forbes would get in the current team easily. Possibly the only swaps would be the keepers and maybe Yates for Parker.

Think I’d keep Parker,he scored quite a few good goals for us.
Can’t comment on Stan.

Support the team we have. We can't bring Murphs or Brett or Keigan Parker off the bench. As for the 2010/11 team (Prem) and the 2011/12 (Championship play-off final)...there's no comparison.
Just get behind the lads.

Actually the only reason I put 10/11 and 11/12 and could have included the straight ten ream as well was to show that this team isn’t as good as those teams.
However for a virtually completely new squad who started the season poorly have now become a good team.
To even be in the playoffs after a crap start is brilliant and I think the squad with one or two omissions and 3/4 summer signings has a lot of potential for developing into a much better team in the future.

Nowhere near as good for me.
I'd say we're more akin to Bowyer's side - grafting hard for each other and we might get lucky. We beat the best team in the Play Offs that season Luton and I think if we can line up a semi against Sunderland and get through that and meet with Lincoln/Pompey or whoever in the final then we have a decent chance.

One thing I would say, I think without the ball this team is the best Blackpool side I’ve ever seen. The work rate and discipline they have when pressing and harrying defenders is outstanding. They close players down time and again without leaving gaps and being pulled out of shape.

As others have said, with the ball they’re improving and doing so while coping with injuries in an impressive way. Class of 2007 would have a game on their hands and would have to watch out for being picked off 1-0.

I didn’t put that year as a comparison as didn’t go home or away at the time so didn’t see anything of them bar semis and final on tv.
See where you’re coming from.

Think a good summary of how I see the squad at present with bags of potential the next couple of years.
Fingers crossed get to the championship next month😅.

I'd say you can lump 09/10 and 10/11 as the same squad, there was obviously differences but generally it was the same. I then consider 11/12 a separate thing as there was so many new players.

I always felt 11/12 was a better all round squad than 09/10 and they were very unlucky to not get promoted. Those 'two' squads are the best I've seen in my lifetime and a very high bar to set for any Blackpool squad to reach the levels of.

A better comparison as others have pointed out is 06/07, where I'd have to agree with sentiments shared that this squad isn't as good as that one. It's hard to take away from what this squad is achieving though considering its an almost completely new set of players who had a horrendous start, who have been suffering with injury after injury. We've seen glimmers of brilliance from them but it hasn't been particularly consistent (at least going forward, we've been solid defensively and off the ball for some time).

This squads improved during the season but as we all know Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Bright future UTMP
