Interesting Stat

@20togo has previously mentioned we have picked up 2 points after going a goal behind.

A combination of those two stats does show the need to be on it from the off.

I disagree… (or at least I disagree with focusing too intently on ‘we must score first’)

What these stats show, is not that we need to score first, but what it shows is that this team needs to develop a bit more resilience.

I’m generally behind the Manager, but this is one thing he’s got wrong for me. I understand that we want to try and score first, but for me we’ve placed far too much emphasis on this message… And we’ve done it to the extent that it has, in my view, developed into mental barrier and has become detrimental.

You’re going to go behind in games sometimes… suck it up and deal with it !!! We’ve got enough fire power in this team to score 3 or 4 goals in a game, so going a goal behind is no problem…

utter nonsense mary. Going a goal behind is a problem because we've only picked 2 points all season when doing so.

It’s hard to argue with those stats however hard you try..we need to go for it every game and get in the oppositions faces…let them worry about us and not the other way round..get into em ..get into em…as we used to sing before we became all happy clappy

I’m not arguing with the stats, I’m saying that we can’t just rely on a ‘must score first or we’re fucked’ policy, because that’s not going to get us anywhere fast.

I’m saying we need to deal with the issue of why we can’t seem to manage to come back and win games from behind.

It’s nowt to do with ‘get into ‘em’ either. We’re an attacking side and are set up as such, by pushing too hard, you open the door to a sucker goal on the counter in any case…. That mentality just panders to the whole panicky ‘must score first’ approach… it’s a sticky plaster approach, instead of dealing with the core issues.

I agree with the attitude issue when we fall behind, that you raise to some extent but we can definitely improve our approach to games and stop being so nicey nice. We need to be more intimidating and on the front foot from the off. We give way too much respect to teams and still have this little old Blackpool mindset

Sounds like Big Gaz Madine is due to make a return. So problem solved on all fronts 👍👍

Largely comes down to no Plan B when we go behind .. or maybe Plan B is to suddenly over defend to ensure we don't concede a second rather than go all out for the equaliser.

You're right as the must score first or we’re fucked’ policy, has the obvious consequence of a 'concede first and we are fucked' mindset, a self fulfilling prophecy.

Root cause needs addressing, and that's being able to cope with setbacks.
