Holloway returns to Bloomfield Road

Think we covered this documentary a few months ago but agree great to see Ollie go on the pitch & was very emotional, bit out of date now as had talks with managers that have now moved on 🥲

Same mentality that doesn't want a stand named after a WC winner because he was a crap manager.
I’d of had Ollie back like a shot but wouldn’t name a stand after a manager, who signed all his mates on expensive deals took us down and sued us for the last bit of cash we had.

Weird how they've re posted it after I posted in in the east stand naming thread. Get your own ideas you buggers. 🤔😏

As you say, I certainly can't dislike him MAC but he was no King Billy.
They were both standalone in their own respective ways.

Billy, a run through a brick wall, blood and thunder man with a great rapport with the fans and players alike.

Olly, a deep thinker but with an off the wall way of explanation. Again though great with the players and the fans.

He's certainly my generation's King Billy.

Shame he's tarnished that a bit with comments surrounding the Oystons and all that after his tenure. Can't say I hold it against him that much though, what he did for us far outweighs stupid remarks.
I've said this before, but he was in a job and would want a job after his time with us. I doubt it would go down well with potential employers if he was capable of slagging them off once in the job. Yes, perhaps a bit OTT from him, but I can understand it.

I’ve always thought that in a strange way it was the Os lack of any real interest in the club that enable Ollie to manage in the way he did and subsequently achieve what he did so I can understand why he showed loyalty to KO. From his POV the were good employers. Maybe would have been better to say nothing, but thats not his style and doesn’t for me, detract from his achievements.

I loved him from the very first minute and I still love him now, an absolute legend and the emotions I felt at Forest away and at Wembley in 2010 will always be with me. I wish he was back at the club in some role or another. Anyone who dislikes him, well it's their opinion, but personally he was a joy when he was our manager, much more fun than the grey man we have now.

Billy was great but Ollie was on another level.
I loved Billy's passion and interaction with us, but in football terms and the passion it generated before, during and after matches, I agree herts, Ollie was on a different level.

Unfortunately his misplaced admiration for The Stains and dumping us at Derby slightly tarnished my respect for him.

However he possibly was the second best Manager we have ever had at this club.

Thanks to Ollie for that season & his time here. But that was a moment where all the stars aligned & impossible to recreate. We must move on without him.
Of course I don’t think many would suggest a return but nothing wrong with reminiscing about that era from time to time.
You can’t help but look back and smile about it.
I don’t see how that can be eclipsed because it wasn’t just about getting to the premiership it’s the manner we did it aswell. At times playing championship clubs with 4 times our wage bill off the park.

Name a manager who's criticised the Oystons after leaving?

None have, Billy didn't.
They don’t because it would affect their future job chances.
Ollys comments re Karl were to sound controversial and interesting to the media outlets asking the questions.

Name a manager who's praised them though Lytham . That's the more pertinent question. Loved his brand of football but that did it for me sadly.

That is spot on. By creating and us and them mentality IH used it and channeled all that into an attitude on the pitch, a sort of 'sod it, we'll show the bastards'. He learned how to use circumstances to his advantage. That's why he was a genius, to turn 6-7/10 players into a 9/10 team is sheer brilliance.

Even Grayson sussed them out eventually. He said if he wanted 2 players in he'd ask for 5 and after the O's thinking they'd won by saying no, he'd get the 2 in.

Realistically, what advantage would IH gain by slagging them off? More importantly what would we gain?

Answer to both is nothing.

Nothing will ever tarnish coming away from Anfield after the game, nor perversly coming away from the Emirates after the game. Both magical.

In over 55yrs watching the mighty I have never ended a day as drunk as I did after the Anfield win.
Sick in the car / out of the window on the way home late that night as I was out drinking with some old head Reds
I had to take the next 2days off work due to alcohol poisoning.
My boss was a die hard home and away Man Ure fan who when I rang him telling him I was too ill to come to work he said "Don't worry MM lad, I will make sure that I rip in to every scouse bastard I see in work on your behalf until you get yourself in!"

I'm still dining out on that double v the scouse 🐀s and never want to play them at first team level again....

It's not pertinent though, you're splitting hairs to cling on to your bias.
Well on that basis I could say precisely the same of you! I'm not clinging to anything really, it's a firm opinion. He proper pissed me off with his pro Oyston stance, simple as that. Four and a half years of boycotting something that has been a central part of my life, only for him to say that and happily repeat it. No thanks.

Holloway was brilliant. Complete day and night to how it is now.
I think every manager we’ve had since has suffered by comparison. We know they won’t be able to replicate that time but we can’t help making the comparison, and wishing. Even now the football is still fresh in the minds of everyone who watched us play.

Up to you innit, the only people you should be angry with are the Oystons.

u Will get the same people on this thread calling Holloway saying he stood with the oystons, the same people who said they would support us once rid even if we had to start again, and already them people are calling saddler out and spitting there dummy’s out,u couldn’t make it up😂😂

I believe with the attacking loan players we had last year he would have kept us up if the club had taken a punt on him instead of Mickosaurus - we'd still have lost a few but he would have got the six or seven wins needed out of the final 20 games.

From his perspective, their lack of interest in the day to day business allowed him total control. He's probably had other Chairmen interfering, so he appreciated being in total control.

Us as fans wanted more input from the owners, he wasn't bothered.

Don't forget , there were expert pundits ? who said we'd be lucky to win a corner in the Prem. Never mind a game .
Ollie blew that out the water from the first match onwards . Dynamic , attacking , swaggering , unpredictable stuff. The excitement with each game was unbelievable . Also that he very nearly pulled us back up the next year . No tippy tappy crappy pissy passy across the back ad nauseum those 3 seasons
