The reason I ask, is because the compulsory use of face masks only comes in on 15th June.

Would I be cynical to think there’s a face mask shortage?🤔

They have been clear that people are to wear face coverings and not medical masks, so it seems unlikely it has anything to do with a shortage. Probably more to do with allowing people time to get used to it, before they start enforcing.

Agree, You could simply put a BFC football scarf around your mouth Giro. Would keep you safe from infection whereas all nobber ones are known for their germs.

Medical experts - Experts eh what do THEY know pah! - are of the opinion that the General Public (us) have no idea how to use PPE properly and that the Government should be providing advice on how to use what we think is something as simple as a face mask and that you can actually make things worse for yourself by constantly fiddling to adjust putting on taking off incorrectly and that a false sense of security can arise - which makes me think that this is EXACTLY why the Government are asking us to use them!

I think that’s highly unlikely. If it provides protection, it should be done, Immediately.

The hospital staff are required to wear surgical maths. So why not now?

"Highly Unlikely"?

It's no different to the approach they would take with newly implemented regulations...There is always a short period of grace, before formal enforcement. Public Transport have already implemented the measures and have signs up etc.., but there will be a period of grace to give everyone chance to get their act together.

There's nothing stopping people from choosing not to use public transport until the rules come into force or to stop anyone wearing face coverings with immediate effect if they want to.

To my mind it seems perfectly rational to give a period of notice.

If you're We’re having bullets fired at you. You wouldn’t wait to see if the armour provided was comfortable to wear.
Agree, to disagree.

Nobody is asking anyone to wait... People can start wearing face coverings immediately.

However if old bloke is stood at the bus stop waiting for a bus the day after the announcement and has no mask, then I expect he will be allowed on bus and advised that in future a mask is required.... It would be totally unreasonable to enforce with immediate effect.... In fact I'm not even sure if it is legal.

I agree, mitigation would solve the problem, so why wait?

Particularly for hospital staff?

You seem to be under the impression that waiting is somehow compulsary?

What we are seeing here is just a delay until the measures become compulsary and not a delay in the implementaton of those measures. As I said at the outset, the process of implementation has already begun.

In the case of hospital staff, it may take a short time to distribute the necessary equipment, to communicate measures to staff & patients... It's simply not realistic to expect that the Government can make an announcement on Monday and implement on the Tuesday. Perhaps you are underestimating the scale of the task involved ?

It's also possible that legislation may be required...

“It's simply not realistic to expect that the Government can make an announcement on Monday and implement on the Tuesday.”

Actually, Boris has tried that on a couple of occasions.
