Sorry if this was posted before Christmas, but only heard about this today. Alex Ferguson, who was uncapped, went on tour in 1967 and played 4 games for a Scotland representative XI. He played 4 times on this tour but these weren't recognised as full internationals. Fergie had been campaigning to get this changed The Scottish FA backtracked before Christmas and officially upgraded these matches to full internationals meaning Fergie is now regarded as a full international. (Ironic that you could say he won these caps in Fergie time?).
A previously uncapped player who played twice on that tour was ex Pool keeper Harry Thomson who is also now a regarded as a Scottish international. Unfortunately he is no longer with us to celebrate this, but his family were among the guests of honour at the Scotland game tonight to acknowledge this achievement.
