Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire continues to get abuse from all quarters despite playing an almost faultless World Cup for England in the group stages. Apart from being regularly booed by England fans, he's been mocked in the Ghanaian Parliament by being compared during a debate to their vice-President who was accused of scoring "economic own goals”. Now Dutch pundit Rafael van der Vaart has accused Germany defender Niklas Sule of not being good enough and being "the German Harry Maguire."

For me, Maguire has been one of the best players in the tournament so far in defence and our main attacking threat from set pieces. We can't control what foreign pundits say about our players but I don't understand why England fans don't show a bit more loyalty to our own player and get behind him. If we're going to progress the last thing we need is to undermine our own players.

Didn’t fancy him pre tournament but he’s been a rock so far….albeit against truly dreadful opposition in 2 out of 3 games. Should we get past Senegal obviously France and there front line will be the acid test

Agree with the OP but I also wouldn't worry too much about Harry Maguire. He's rich beyond his wildest dreams and earns it playing football. Who cares what other people say? Southgate backs him and that's all he needs.

Nope not for me, he just doesn't fill me with any kind of confidence. Looks cumbersome on the ball, is so slow and just doesn't seem to want to pass to anyone who isn't within 5 yards of him.

Ok at corners he clears well and he's a target and occupies defenders at the other end.

He was at fault for Iran's first goal let his man go without a challenge (too slow)

As we progress he will be targeted as the weak link by the better teams but hopefully this won't cost us too much.

There that's my opinion now watch him go 😅 match winning tackles and goal scoring heroics, "go Slabhead go"👍👍
