Good start essential next season

I thought the same last season but I think our home form and the desire for a fist pump 😳 glossed over what was a poor start that never really improved.

Surely the pressure is on Critch to get off to a good start in August. Let’s hope he can learn from this season’s mistakes especially away from Bloomfield 🤞
If we are playing the same dour turgid football next season and not challenging he will be gone in the first international break (hopefully)

Yes flying off to a good start is key
A problem we will have is the loan market. We all know PL/Cship clubs wait to see what their business does before deciding who to let go out. Given we really should have finished the season with our best 4 players all being loans (Rhodes would have played). I can't see influential loans coming in until last minute., which will be a huge blow to a good start.

It's what we do.

Not sure about that FCB. We do tend to put our loanees in the shop window. I'm pretty sure we are seen as a good club for putting big clubs' young players out there.

Don't disagree with that. My point is the best ones don't arrive until late, once the parent club has done it's business. This could impact on the start we make. As I say, our 4 best players that would have finished the season were all loans. You wouldn't want to start with 4 gooduns missing for 3 weeks, and then bedding in.

With the Euros not finishing until July, the season is starting a week later, so only missing two weeks😉

Fair point.

Looking at this list, I can only see 6 out of 22 starters which doesn't bode well to starting well.

Agree with that - had we have had Rhodes in the first 5 games I reckon we would have been 4/6 points better off and job done.

Another complication this summer is that the olympic football final isn't until 9th August, only three weeks before the transfer window closes and the day before the start of the EFL season. Knock on effect throughout the pyramid in terms of late decision making on squads and loans.

I’d like to think we will have bought two or three players in this summer period, preferably as soon as possible.

This should hold the playing squad together and playing well, which then opens the opportunity to bag a couple young, budding championship or Premiership players in need of “breaking in”.

As someone suggested, we tend to get some good youngsters in…

It's a marathon not a sprint but I get the feeling a good start is needed as much for Critchley as it is our promotion hopes. No doubt we'll have the usual line about our new squad needing time to settle. 😔

A decent home fixture would be good too to get up and running - not Wrexham away etc. which wouldn't go well. Will be interesting to see how we fare away from home, something Critchley definitely needs to sort out regardless of personnel.

Who plays in Olympic football? Can't say I've ever watched a single game!!

I said before we kicked a ball last season that we would be floundering about achieving nothing and i was right.
This season will be no different.

It's effectively an under 23 tournament with the cream of the world's young talent (for GB the likes of Saka and Bellingham for example). Both a shop window and a source of injuries which will have a knock on effect from the top tier European clubs down to our level. It will affect which players will and will not be loaned out by EPL clubs and therefore what loanees will be available from Championship clubs. Whether you've ever watched a game is irrelevant, it has an impact on the loan market and therefore on us.

Lot of 0-0s at the start of the season. Might have nicked one of them 1-0 if we signed Rhodes earlier.

Get business done quickly and stop scrambling around on deadline day. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail

Hmmm ,,,why not get players that are young and hungry that will play good attractive football ,,sign them on good contracts ,,,but no ,,,,wait until prem and championship clubs farm out players ,mand rely on getting in loanees ,,,that will be gone end of season ,,then gave to start again ,,,plan for the future,,,,,its not rocket science ,,,same old ,,same old every season ,,,

I would like to think that even if Rhodes is on the list (which I have mixed feelings about) that we will bring in at least two strikers this summer.
League One is all about goals and that's where we fell short last season.
