Glad you went?

What do you think? Looking back and despite the disappointment, I'm still glad I was there. It was a pretty incredible sight to see more than 4000 of us making the trip yesterday. A statement if anybody needed it, is that this club is right back in business and has all the potential to compete at a high level.

As for the game itself, we competed well for the first half but in my view lost our way in the second. To have no proper shot on target in 96 minutes of football isn't really good enough. Rhodes had little or no support, and in my view we have to give him a proper attacking partner to capitalise on our most effective player. Critchley again made the wrong changes or nmade them too late. His reaction to tactical switches by the opposition and his ability to take the initiaitve and take it to the opposition at the right moment "in game" is not where it should be. I like Dale, but seriously, what was he going to bring to right midfield that would be better than Dembele was giving? Bolton were already all over us in midfield at that point. I initially applauded the sub because I though he was going to swap Dale for a labouring Thompson, who had got himself stupidly booked for handball and was clearly building up to having another of his erratic moments. Grimmy looked to be on the left side of his goal when the shot came in.

Throughout, our passing wasn't quite good enough and we didn't ask them enough questions. On a positive note, Marv looked more himself, Norburn showed his bottle after what looked like a rib injury, Dembele only needs the right set up to be a massive asset and Joseph looks a quality addition.

Looking at the table, we are 12-15 points off the pace for automatic promotion and around 10 points from yet another roll in the play off lottery. I can't really see us making up the deficit for automatic now, especially if we have more games where we don't get a shot on target, but who knows? We will need a spectacular winter, including Christmas when we know we often struggle.

I don't like 5 3 2/5 4 1. Football is about attacking and defensive partnerships, ones and threes don't work as well. I think we have the squad. Critchley must be less stubborn, adjust his tactics and let our best players play.

Still glad I was there yesterday though.

Gutted about the result and disappointed with certain aspects of our performance but still glad I went. A loss always brings about criticism but I thought for large periods we were better than them or their equal. We were one bad mistake from Thompson (it happens far too often and we need to get rid) from taking a point from many peoples promotion favourites. It is disappointing we didn't create more chances or force their keeper to make a single save. It's also disappointing that Lavery is out again and that certain players aren't fit enough to put in a 90 minute performance. Although it was great to see Joseph make his league debut, OK he looked rusty but I have no doubt over the coming weeks we'll see an improvement. There's no point wanting Critchley out or big changes, we have to recognise we were edged out by a decent Bolton side and make sure we put a good run together starting next weekend.

Football aside I thought the minutes silence was impeccably observed by both sets of fans.

Best thing about the day was going to see A Certain Ratio in Preston after the match. Agree with much of what you’ve said there pal. I can’t help but think Critchley is quite content with it coming together in the final third of the season and us feeling let down week in week out before then.

Enjoyed the game and as you say magic to see over 4,000 Blackpool fans attending.

First half we were good, Morgan and Norburn competed well and I thought had the better of their midfield.

Second half their midfield either stepped it up or our fitness levels dropped a wee bit.

More likely down to them.

I think tactically and physically they edged us out second half. I'd definitely have taken the point at that time.

Evatt changed it at half time. Critchley didn't. When Evatt's tactical shift changed the game, Critchley changed nothing.
Not ant-Critchley, just how it was, and oft is in that he does not react to counter the opposition's tactics - as per Derby and Pboro who roundly exposed us.

I didn’t really expect anything from yesterday.

If anything we played more shite than I thought we would.

Overall it was a good day on the ale though 👍

Absolutely glad l went it was a good game of football against 2 decent L1 teams. Thought we played the better in the first half and lost our way in the second by sitting too deep and allowing them too much time and space in the midfield. Playing out from the back cost us when Thompson gave the ball away but taking nothing away from Thomason he hit the ball superbly giving Grimmy no chance. Worrying though that we did not have one shot on target in the entire 90+ minutes but it would have been very different if Lavery had played upfront with JR.

I don't agree with the no shots on target stat. From memory Carey had one shot and one header and Hamilton another that were destined for the back of the net had a defender not managed to block it one way or another. Surely just because it is a defender who stops it going into the net doesn't mean its not a shot on target.

I couldn't make the game yesterday so watched it on tv. Yes we competed well in midfield in the first half but it was noticeable in the second half they pretty much overran us and we weren't closing them down on the edge of our own box allowing them to keep posing more of a threat.. Norburn back after a few games out was perhaps tiring. Is that how those at the game saw it because it seemed only a matter of time before they scored, great strike though it was?.

Were they any good ?

Glad I went, it was a good day out
Glad I decided to drive last minute as I believe it was carnage on the trains

The result could and should have been better, Dembele should have scored early on, a couple of times when Sonny Carey should have got a shot away, two good chances fir CJ second half and a coupe of goalmouth scrambles

Spot on tbf. Norburn took a major whack in the first half too that affected his breathing and mobility, I think a few players would have cried off after that.

I actually thought their goal came out of nothing really. You’re right, they definitely won the midfield battle, but it didn’t seem to me at the game that a goal was coming.

Yesterday was a weird one, we weren’t bad and I actually thought for the first 25/30 we played like the home team.

But to not have a shot on target is painful and inexcusable really. Bolton are a good side but I didn’t think they were any better than us on the day. Makes it more frustrating as the game was there to be won but once again it was as if the handbrake was on.

Handbrake always seems to be on with Mr Negative 🙄

Bit of both. Norburn was coming back off a layoff and Morgan hadn't had a run of games so both were lacking match fitness

We should have also had a penalty 😉

Without a doubt I am glad I went. Was fantastic in Poulton on Saturday morning, lots of groups of lads milling about, heading towards the station, on the cans, in the Elk, in the Thatched - it felt great. The Poulton Elk was rammed all morning with Blackpool supporters. Didn't go to Chorley but could only imagine that was just as exciting.

I do love the big away following occasions, there is something quite special about it, going away with 4,000 other Pool fans. Particularly even more so with Bolton, who are very close behind Preston in terms of hatred - simply cannot stand them, and it's got worse over time not better.

The atmosphere was good, could have been better, but I would say the only downside to big away followings is you rarely find the atmosphere flow so well. Doesn't help at Bolton with the lower/upper split also.

Gutted it's over in a way, was looking forward it to for weeks, and it would have been on the icing on the cake to come home with 3 points.

'Thompson, who had got himself stupidly booked for handball and was clearly building up to having another of his erratic moments' - my thoughts exactly. Dale for Thompson when it was 0-0... there was no other obvious sub. Oh hang on....

Ps Lyons. Let the Lyon roam free!!!

On the other side to the o/p's question, had I have gone I was going with a mate who is a Bolton fan and so would have been sat with the Wanky Wanderers fans - fortunately no one would change my shift and so didn't go. In that respect am delighted I wasn't there!

Glad I went, support from our fans was ace. And that is with a bit of a pessimism knocking around.

We just need to find a formula to win games. Bolton showed us the way to play a back 3. You also need a play maker sat at the bottom of the axis that can spread the ball. I feel like Norburn +1 always get in each others way.
