George Byers

I don't know much about him but looking at what we have and his skillset who does he replace?
 
According to reports there hasn't been any discussions between the Club and the player. It's not even clear whether SW want to sell, although it may be wise on their part to cash in now in view of the contract position.

To me it looks as though there is too much to do before the window closes, but if they can pull it off he would be a very good addition. My concern is that the deal can't be done and we are left with no replacement at all for Dougall.

We have been in for him for 3 weeks and I guess its whether he wants to drop back to League 1 and chance his arm here or whether he wants to fight for his place at Wednesday...would be a great addition but we dont seem to get any of these marque signings over the line these days...lets hope someone can sell him the club as we did with Norburn
 
When this was first rumoured a few weeks ago, didn't both the player and manager comment that they didn't want him to leave? Is he out if contract in the summer?
 
I live just up the hill from Hillsborough and he is highly rated. Looks like this season hasn't been his best, but last year they looked much better with him in the side.

You probably right, I probably should, but I wasn't the only one on here that had never heard of them before we were linked with them. Just go back and look at the threads for when we first got linked and you can see that clear as day.

I think your right, we have to hope everybody stays fit for the rest of the season to have a chance of the playoffs
 
This looks very likely today although Barnsley have offered a permanent deal and we have only gone for a loan… great signing if it comes of but would have much preferred a permanent…an upgrade if we get him that is for sure so fingers crossed

The website that says Barnsley have offered permanent looks flakey to me. Might be true but I wouldn't take it as gospel.

It may look flakey but it is true..they have offered a permanent..I hope we get him on a permanent as he will bring quality straight into the side and he is a really good player at this level..I don’t do bullshit as evidenced by my original post and I’m very hopeful..credit to the club if we pull it off and at last a real statement of intent…just need a quality ball passing centre half now

I haven't said you do bullshit. How do you know Barnsley have offered a permanent deal?

This defo looks like it's happening, even the local Barnsley journalists is saying they've lost out to us and have turned their attention elsewhere
 
Pro: Good player who can hold his own in the league above
Con: Only a loan deal

You can understand it from his point of view. This way he can play first team football before getting himself a nice payday in summer.

Don't mind this at all if confirmed.

Sheffield are saying they're going to cancel his contract, allowing him to leave for free. Pressure on FFP.

Barnsley have offered nothing plus add ons if they get promoted. Already knocked back.
