Gareth Ainsworth calls us a small club

"where's the small teams gone? No disrespect ... where's ya Wigan's? Where's ya Blackpool's?"

Not sure these "small teams" being in the division did him any favours anyway, we beat them 6 - 1 at home under McCarthy for fuck sake, they were easily the worst team I saw at Bloomfield Road.

If it wasn't for their great start QPR would have been dead and buried. They'll be in trouble again I imagine and he'll be potted pretty early, very surprised QPR are sticking with him, I don't think he's in any way a Championship quality manager so the arrogance is astounding.

We probably are, but QPR most definitely are also. The most annoying thing is that fuckwits like him think little insignificant clubs like QPR are big. They have similar size stadiums and fan base, also the same limited success.

It’s indicative of how we are thought of these days due to years of neglect by the previous wanker owners, in another thread I’ve commented for the umpteenth time that 1978 is my worst moment for BFC because it was a watershed moment in our history that we have never recovered from. We know we should have gone a long way towards getting back on track after the premiership season but obvs was wasted by those twats in charge.

It infuriates me that we are thought of as little but it infuriates me even more that some of our supporters seem to have accepted it, I just hope and pray that SS has the ambition and mentality to bring us some way back to where I believe we belong!

Yep, it's indoctrination from the previous regime.

Says the man who came from Wycombe.

He didn't mean any malice by it, in terms of the club's he mentioned who have gone up and down, we are.
What he said implied to me he was lamenting the lack of small teams to make his job easier, ie easy teams to beat. Someone should have reminded him that one of those “small” teams thrashed QPR 6-1 last season

Never forgotten a woman in a meeting said ‘with respect, Walnut. You know it means exactly the opposite. Tosser

There's also the small matter of a small team from Bedfordshire who have just made the not so small leap to the Premier League.

I call Gareth Ainsworth a nob.

Between him and Philly S who I'd like to punch first. Actually unfair to Ainsworth ...

Doesn’t help when certain managers of our own were also making out we were small and lucky to be where we were in the Championship so hardly surprising he said it today

It most definately is a mindset thing and our glorious heritage has been gnawed away since our relegation to Div.3 back in 78.

But QPR............ FFS

A nothing club in their Shepherd Bush Subbuteo stadium.

Gareth Ainsworth is saying what many others think, including our own fans. It's self limiting. Burnley only used to get slightly higher crowds than us, and yet they were never limited by how they thought of their own club, and look how they've climbed out of years of lower league status.
Small time thinking only leads to a small time club. We won't get anywhere until we start thinking better of ourselves I'm afraid. Some think we should accept £3m for Yates, and that's another symptom. PNE turned down £8m for their best striker. That's the difference. They act like they can demand more because of how they perceive the status of their club, and we don't think enough of ourselves.

Yet the nobbers got similar crowds to us last season before the mega cheap deal, marketing campaign and with free under 11's helping them to some of their highest crowds for over 50 years. They were also near the playoffs for much of it.

Blackburn crowds aren't anything special either, considering their lofty position in the table for much of the campaign and the better quality players, we'd be getting similar to that if up there ffs and we've had years of neglect and tons of rebuilding to do.

Tbf I know what he's saying, but we need to drop this little Blackpool bollox.

The new east will help, it'll give that complete stadium feel and it'll feel bigger and better, the current east brings it down. That's a start. Success and growing the fanbase has to happen too.

Wanker, potential and history wise we're mid table championship all day and certainly no bigger or smaller than QPR. Got a long way to go to change that perception outside of those in the know though.

I agree that he didn't intend to be malicious, but you can still be disrespectful without malicious intent. I've seen a lot of QPR fans slagging the interview off, it was a QPR fan that pointed out all three of these teams beat QPR, two of them under Ainsworth! I'd be embarrassed if the manager of Blackpool was making degrading comments about other clubs like that on TalkSport.

It's funny really, whenever someone prefaces a statement with "not to be [blank]", they're typically about to be whatever blank is.

Preston, hull, Huddersfield, Cardiff, Rotherham there’s a few me thinks he’s got a defeatist attitude much like Appletons before the start of last season…..

There is no doubt about it we have a smallish fan base and from that limited finances . We will never be a major force in football again ,but that should never deter us from supporting them . On years when we are promoted or get to the last 8 of a major cup ,then that is a huge success and should be accepted as so.

There are plenty of well supported clubs that will win very little unless some mega rich investment is made in them. If you look at teams like Sunderland , Wolves , WBA and Norwich . All have bigger fan bases and more money then us and are expected to be in at least the Championship . There success would be to manage to get into the Prem and survive there.

So if you look at the bigger picture Blackpool will probably have more success then any of these clubs in their own way . We are expected to be a div 1 team by other supporters yet we have made it to the bigger leagues including the biggest. While there is no wage caps in football, teams like Man City will buy the trophies and no one can do much about it.

So enjoy the following of Blackpool ,because you never know what can happen with us and each game is an adventure. Its easy to buy a City shirt and wait for the next trophy.
